I have had that problem quite often. Then I usually make use of the EQ settings in the AUDIO program to BOOST the sound.

PROBLEM WITH AUDIO

Try installing the correct driver for your Realtek audio card.

XP drivers here: http://www.acerpanam.com/synapse/data/7117/documents/3624_Audio.zip

Vista drivers here: http://www.acerpanam.com/synapse/data/7117/documents/Realtek AC97 Driver 6.0.1.6202.zip

This is assuming, of course, that:
a) your speakers are "on"
b) your volume control is not set to "mute"

Hope this helps - be sure to rate my answer

XP drivers for Realtek AC97 audio driver here:

My guess would be that whichever one you have, you've installed the "other" one.

let me know if this helps, and please remember to rate my answer :)

you shouldn't have a problem, Vista uses Realtek high definition audio, assuming this is the sound make you use you need to install the normal Realtek audio driver, see below:-

have you installed the correct driver? , because Vista uses Realtek HD Audio and XP uses Standard Realtek Audio, also right click on the speaker icon>audio properties and make sure that speaker volume is set to the correct speakers and not headphones or somethong else
