Yes it can be automatically switch OFF and switch ON by using recycling timer and relay. It is advisable to call qualified electrician to do this job.

What is the purpose of the body control unit?

Without having more specific information like year and model I can only give you a generic answer at this time, the body control unit is also known as the body ECU(electronic control unit) it controls just about everything in the car except for the engine, transmission and dynamic brake systems, examples: auto light turn on/off, daytime running lights, keyless entry, factory alarm, power windows, wiper /washers, auto A/C systems and more depending on the year and model.

I beleive there is some confusion about the Timer Mode. It can only be set to turn the unit OFF after a selected time period. For example: It's 6pm you want the unit to turn OFF at 10pm. You press the Timer button on the unit itself, in increments, until it reaches 4 hours. At 10pm the unit will turn OFF. As a safety feature, it does not have the capability to turn the unit ON at a selected time and then OFF again. In the interim, until you get really familiar with all the functions of this model, use the control pad on the unit, rather than the remote control.

I hope this helped you understand what the timer does and how to activate & set it.

Geckos cuase my airconditioning unit to seize up.

Place moth balls inside the unit: it acts as a gecko repellent. Just take care you do not place them in the airway as it may carry its smell. Also, when you visit a grocery store look in the pest control section you can find some sort of stickers which repel them.

Setting temperature with the remote control

remove the front cover of the airconditioning unit, you will find a sensor bulb, (coppertube with a round tip) close to the coil. pull it away around an inch. either the sensor is taking the coils temp and not the air.
