Canon Pixma 160 wont' feed paper correctly

I cleared a paper jam and now it feeds the paper faster on the right than on the left side feeds anywhere from two to five sheets at a time.

Would that roller be the thin white one or the big thick grey one?

  • dorki May 02, 2008

FI think I am losing my mind. I did what you suggested and now the paper feeds straight as a die but about four sheets come through each time and some jam.

Turn off the unit, look for obstruction or physical damages on the area where you are loading paper, turn it back on then try printing using single sheet and multi sheet, check for paper thickness as well if you have one on the printer, set it to Letter or position it on Left hand side. Chances are if you are still getting same issue after these steps you are having a paper sensor problem with the printer, if its within the warranty call manufacturer. If not have it service or buy a new one, Best I got. Hope this help.

Pls dont forget to rate solution, thanks!!

Its not really visible when you look at it from the outside, so best thing is for you to have it service. If within warranty call manufacturer so that you can have a replacement unit.

    Cleaning the Paper Feed Rollers

    If
the paper feed roller is dirty, paper is not fed properly because the
paper feed roller slips. Cleaning the paper feed roller could resolve
the paper feeding problem. Please follow the instructions below to
clean the Paper Feed Rollers directly from the unit.
Caution: Since the cleaning process wears down the paper feed roller, perform this procedure only when necessary.

    1. Ensure that the printer is powered on and remove any paper from the Auto Sheet Feeder (ASF).

    2. Confirm that a number is displayed in the LED

    3. Press the button repeatedly until [b] appears.

    4. Press the or button. The paper feed roller cleaning starts.

    5. Open the Paper Output Tray.

    6. Load a sheet of A4 or Letter-sized plain paper in the ASF and open the paper output tray.

    7. Perform paper feed roller cleaning (steps 2 and 3) one time. Paper will be fed.

    8. If
paper is not fed properly, repeat steps 2 and 3 twice without paper and
then try paper feed roller cleaning with paper loaded.

Here are some steps to help you regarding paper roller cleaning

    Setting the Paper Thickness Lever

    To
adjust the gap between the ink cartridges and paper in order to improve
a paper abrasion problem, set the paper thickness lever properly
according to the media being used.

    1. Open the paper output tray.

    2. Set the paper thickness lever right or left according to the paper being used.

      a.
When printing on paper (such as plain paper) other than an
envelope/T-Shirt Transfers, set the paper thickness lever to the left
      position.

      b. When printing on an envelope/T-Shirt Transfers, set the paper thickness lever to the right position.

      Note:
When paper other than an envelope or T-Shirt Transfers is scratched or
scuffed, setting the paper thickness lever to the right may correct
this problem. However, continuous printing in this setting will likely
smear the inside of the printer. Therefore, return the paper thickness
lever to the left position after printing.

    For the paper thickness lever

It sounds like the paper pickup roller has been damaged, and needs to be replaced.

When paper is fed into the auto sheet feed the left side of the paper feeds, but the right side is not feeding at all....resulting in a paper jam. You can hear the printer printing but the paper doesn't go...

helpful to know what kind of machine you have :\. In general one of the paper pickup roller pads is probably rotated 180 degrees out and not touching the paper, many rollers are triangular/square and have to be oriented correctly. Other causes are the plastic gears which if stripped means a junk printer unless its an expensive one. Stripped gears because someone pulled a jammed page out too violently is the usual cause. Check also for embedded staples/paperclips in the mechanism.

Paper jam

Use mirror and flashlight to look down paper feeder from the rear, gently pull paper toward the rear. An index card can be fed from the front to the rear to push paper out by turning the gears you see on the left side inside the front cover. Be careful not to force anything.

The paper will not feed correctly. The Right side is getting jam

First jam a paper on purpose then you will know where the jam is . and you will also know where to find the paper which is under the white cylinder.

Canon Pixma iP1500 printer indicates paper jam

1. Turn the printer off and open the access cover.
2. Look for any obstructions in the paper path and remove them if necessary. (It is possible to move the carrier assembly with the power off.)
3. Turn the printer on, load some paper, and press the Form Feed button. (On the X83, press the Select button.)
4. Watch the paper as it feeds through and try to determine where the jam is occurring.
5. Check to see if all the rollers are turning.

If all the rollers are turning, there may be something in the feed path that you can't see. Go to step 6.
If not, there is probably a feed motor or a gear problem and the printer may require service.
6. If the paper is jamming under the carrier assembly, you may be able to fix it using the manual feed slot.
7. Turn the printer off.
8. Take a #10 envelope and feed it through the left side of the manual feed slot until it comes right through the printer to the back of the exit rollers.
9. Move it up and down first, and then slowly move it over to the right side. If something is stuck under the black guide plate, this may work it loose.
