The hard drive is bad ... nobody can fix it. If you just purchased it, HP should replace it. It should give you an error message when running the diagnostics from the BIOS ... something like 10008. They can use this code to authorize a replacement. If they will not replace it, ask for a supervisor or send it back. They should have a 30 return policy.

Describe your HP Pavilion dv9000z 17" Notebook Laptop PC PC Notebook Problem it won't boot up, it lights up but nothing else


Does it make a beeping sound when you turn it on? If it does try this:
Turn it off and take the battery out for about 2 minutes. Put the battery back in and press the power button to turn on. Immediately tap the F8 key on your keyboard. This will bring you to the advanced boot options. Choose last known good configuration.
If that doesn't work you may also try choosing system restore in the advanced boot options and follow the instructions. Note that a system restore brings the computer setting back to a previous restore point.

My hp pavilion a820n computer will turn on but won't start up


As the computer is starting up keep hitting F8 until you come to the boot options screen. Once in the boot options select "Last Known Good Configuration" and see if it will start. If it still will not start then try and see if the computer will boot in safe mode (Do the F8 thing again until you reach the boot options screen again and click on "Safe Mode").
If it will not load into safe mode then you may need a Windows O/S Reinstall.

Storm knocked power off late yesterday afternoon....back on this morning. PC won't power up....small green light on back flashing. Modem, router, etc. all back up and running, but PC won't turn...


Hello,
The first thing to try is to cycle the power. To do this, unplug the power cord from the back of the PC and press and hold down the power button on the PC for 5 seconds. This will completely drain any "stuck" power in the components. Now plug the power back into the PC and try booting. If it still does not come back on after this, then you may be dealing with a blown power supply. You can buy replacement power supplies from your local PC shop for about $50 for a 400watt.
To protect your devices in the future, make sure you have a good surge protector and / or a UPS (uninterrupted power supply).

Hi friend,

You need to start your pc then press "F8" button then select the safe mode option ....window will start in safe mofe....then you need to restart your pc again ...then it will work...

HP Pavilion a384x PC, 8 beeps, doesn't boot up


This beep code indicates a possible motherboard fault.
Some components may not be making proper electrical connection.
Open the desktop and remove the cable connectors and components one at a time and insert them on back on the motherboard.
Also remove the various PCI cards etc. and insert them back into the various slots.
If it still doesn't boot up or cannot go into the BIOS configuration, then it is a faulty motherboard. The hard drive should be OK but you won't know for sure until you test it by connect it to an USB hard drive adapter and plug it into a working computer's USB port.

Do you have a restore image or the recovery discs? If not, you might be able to contact HP and pay a small fee for them to mail you a set.

If you have a boot CD try that (i.e. a boot live CD of Knoppix or Ubuntu Linux) to see if the computer is working
