My dad fixed this problem by changing the background on his computer. I know this sounds like a strange fix, but apparently certain backgrounds just affect the load time and I think that's what this "2 min" icon was representing. His icon has now disappeared.
If the Windows loading progress bar appears after turning ON the Computer and the Computer goes to the blank screen then perform the under given steps.
Press "CTRL+Shift+ESC" key combination to open the Task Manager window. Next, click on the "Applications" tab and click on the "New Task...." tab located on the bottom of the window. Then type "explorer.exe" and click "OK".
This would bring you back the Desktop icons and the taskbar.
did you see a audio voulem control icon on the right side in the corner on your desktop?
try to use head phone , plug in your laptop, see everything works ok ?
A............ working good, that means the speaker of your laptop may have problem, hardware problem. (no one can do anything for you)
B............still no sound, maybe the software/driver problem, try to uninstall the old driver, and reinstall again.
start your machine...when the sony screen disappears press F8 (to get safe mode options) one of these options is a vista startup repair....choose that one.....takes a couple of minutes to fix and boot into windows so be patient....the reason you have this problem is the user profile has become corrupt but windows vista corrects this with startup repair
