Transferring data/programs from Mac book to iMac using Ethernet cable. All was going well till last minute, and it has been stuck on that for 3+ hours. Don't know what to do. Help please Elise

Assuming the MacBook has FireWire, get a firewire800 cable. PLug it into both Macs FireWire ports. Shut down MacBook, restart and hold T key = target disk mode. MacBook will appear as any other mounted external drive on your desktop. *From there, you can either manually drag files over or open Migration Assistant on the iMac and migrate user/data/ apps.

My MacBook Pro 2.2ghz intel core duo won't boot. When I use the system disk to attempt repair it can't. I get error 45NS/1?4000000:TGOD-86.00. Please help! Terry Gillespie

Boot your computer in Target disk mode if you have another computer around, so you can treat the HD of the Macbook as an external.
Another possibility which would cost you more but is probably a bit safer on your data is to get a new drive, install it (a Macbook, having a user swappable HD, makes this easy) and do a fresh install of your OS on your Macbook from your disk. Put your HD in an external case and only try to get your precious data off of it when your machine is stable and reliable.

Thanks for using Fixya!

Need to transfer data from old computer to new computer

You have a bad situation. Only a mac repair pro can help you in this case as it's hard to arrange some tools to solve the problem. A pro can gain access to your emac hard drive and free up some space or transfer your data using special tools and knowledge. Thank you and good luck.

How do we find the flash drive on macbook pro?

Thank You for using FixYa

When you plug in a flash drive on a macbook pro you will see an icon appear on the desktop with the name of the usb flash drive

Also, by going into the finder, on the left hand side of the screen you will see the connected drives. It should be under your hard drive.

Hope this information was helpful

My mac book won't start up properly. I turn it on and then a white screen appears with an image of a folder and a question mark in the centre. Please help!

Sorry for your issue. I hope that I can help.
This icon means that your Hard drive is either unreadable to it cannot find the startup information on the drive. Either way, there is a good chance that you cannot recover your data. If this Mac is still under warranty, immediately take it back to the apple store (even if you bought it online) and they will fix it immediately and try to recover your data. You can make a service appointment here: http://www.apple.com/retail/geniusbar/

If this is out of warranty, here are the things you can try at home to solve this issue.

1) You'll want to restart the mac to be sure that this isnt a one time occurrence.
2) Start up with your system DVD (or CD) disc that came with your Macbook, then use Disc Utility to check the hard drive. Disc Utility will verify that the HD is unreadable.
3) Purchase one of the available data recovery programs out there (google and chose one that suits you. If you have backed up your data, skip this step. If disk utility shows the HD as unreadable but you have a backup, then either take to apple for a replacement HDD or purchase from a retailer and install yourself. Here is a guide for the macbook HDD install. Not a very difficult fix.

I hope this helps.

Ticking noise

Hello,

Ticking noises are indicative of major hardware failures. As no HDD manufacturer actually warranties data, if you have important files on it your drive, you will likely need the help of a pro.

If you have all your data backed up elsewhere(including on the Mac), contact Iomega and have it replaced under warranty.

If you do need files recovered, let me know as well as your region and I will recommend a good location.

The platters on your drive collided, the only way to recover is a professional company. Google Hard Drive recovery, you will get several companies, be prepared to pay $300-500.
