You didn't mention what model / year / engine you are having problems with, so this will be generalized somewhat.
Assuming that you are referring to the ignition module / magneto, you may able to find a used one from a small engine repair shop. The shop may also be able to order an aftermarket replacement as well. If the unit that you need is just absolutely not available, then you might have better results looking for an ignition upgrade (point / condenser to electronic, etc).
