Question about Creative Labs Zen Digital Media Player

Zen Media Explorer keeps saying "Player not connected"

When I dock my Zen and open the Media explorer everything is grey and it says "Player Not Connected" when it is.

What can I do to fix this?

    I have the 4GB and it's fully charged and I have had the Media Explorer recognize it before and it did open..... but I don't know why when I remove the player and then try to reopen Media Explorer I cannot get it to recognize the player again. I have tried for two days to see what it takes....I am tired now.

    Plese help.

    I'm having the same problem with my 16gb Zen.

    Once connected, the player is recognised by windows (XP) though Zen media Explorer fails to detect it (greyed out like you said), I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling many times without any success. I have also tried connecting my wife's new 4gb Zen - the result is the same, so I am doubting that the problem lies with the players themselves but with a conflict between Windows and Zen Media Explorer.



    If anybody has figured this out PLEASE post a solution. Cheers! Adey.

    So utterly annoying. The program doesnt seem to work under windows. Not only makes it impossible to manage the content of my player, neither does it re-load the battery. Great player, but the supporting software; I HATE IT!

    Try running the player under Ubuntu without the software, that will work...

    Mine only stays recognized by windows for about 15 seconds in MTP mode if I reload the driver. It is never recognized by the program either way. But I have about 15 seconds to drag and drop files with windows explorer before it takes a dump again. Then I have to reload the driver again to get another 15 seconds. This software sucks dicks.

    My computer is not able to install the media explorer part but is able to install the others such as the sound manager and stuff...my player is also not detected when i insert te driver in the computer. What is the problem?

    I hate Creative! The Zen player is wonderful itself, but what can I do with a mp3 player that is not recognized by my pc? I tried everything, the suggestions from the creative "experts", the one from the i-net forums, EVERYTHING, but my WIN XP SP2 stopped to recognize my zen as connected since a couple of weeks ago and I can do nothing moreapart getting total crazy and losing hours and hours of my life to try to make it work...I think creative should crack down for what they doing to their customers!

    Thought it was my PC, but cannot even download the software to another PC as a 'startup' fix.Simply says 'not connected'. No more downloads possible from now on. Does charge up through the USB though.

    Should I send it back or is there a fix?

    I have tried to charge my zen by pluggunig it into the the computer as usual for charging and it wnt play after its charged

    every time i try to add music to my player it says "player not connected" evan though ive checked it multipul times and each time i check it it is still connected and on.

This worked for me - My Zen player had the same 'not connected problem'

From the Start menu, select Control Panel > System. From the window that appears, select the Hardware tab and then click on Device Manager. You will find a listing for your Zen Player - probably under Portable Devices. You may well see that the entry for Zen has an exclamation mark in it - delete this entry by right clicking your mouse. Reboot your PC with the Zen player still attached and you should find that the problem is cured.

Thanx Man. it really worked. i was going crazy bocz of the problem. i have windows vista. so i had to figure out what to do. here's what i did
1. i went to control panel
2. in that, hardware and sound
3. in that, device manager
4. after clicking on it, i right-clicked on creative zen
5. i had to uninstall creative zen.
6. then reboot the pc
7. after rebooting, the problem was solved.

I tried to roll back to media player 10 .. it didn't worked! CREATIVE go to hell...how can they destroy a so wonderful player with a so **** software????

The removal of Media Player 11 tip posted by Guest worked for me! Big Ginormous Thanks for sorting this problem out!

ps I needed to repair the installation of the Zen software after I removed MP11 - hope this helps!

I was able to fix the problem by getting rid of windows media player 11 and rolling back to 10. You have to make sure to uninstall the WMP 11 Runtime as well. Now it works like a champ, although the transfering software provided by creative sucks dicks. I'd recommend just dragging and dropping the files with windows. Or using another program like media monkey.

Sometimes, for reasons unknown, one setting changes in the Zen Media Explorer. If you can't see your Zen, But can see your media explorer, open it and then click on the tools tab. You should see a checkbox saying, "show my player as portable device". Re-check this box, close and re-open my computer and it should be there.

Creative Zen - can't download music from XP SP2


When you plug the Mp3 player into 2 computers running slightly different versions of XP, a reformatting occurs which will cause it not to work on one PC or the other. You must reformat your player for the home computer. Actually, you might want to check the firmware also: Go to Creative's website and double-check the firmware - it will also give you the best way to reformat your player:

Zen -duplicate setup on pc


Zen with Storage Media is whats on the player, The explorer is where you pick the music from and should sync it to the zen.
also
make sure you have media player 11 and up to date firmware

Simple instructions on how to transfer podcast to creatinve zen mp3 player.


The CD that comes with the Zen installs the ZEN Media Explorer. If you are using Windows you go to My Computer then select ZEN Media Explorer. There you click on "Add
iTunes Media" and select the podcast from the available podcasts in iTunes.

My Creative Zen M won't "dock"


One problem may be that the registry entry for the player is corrupted. You can find out if this is the case by opening your computer's Device Manager (this page tells how, if you're not familiar with it). Look under "Windows Portable Devices" if you have XP or "Portable Devices" if you have Vista, and you should see the name of your MP3 player.

If your player is listed in the Device Manager but has a small yellow warning sign next to it, right click on your player's name and click Properties. The Properties box may say "Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)."

If this is the case, there's an easy fix, that doesn't require any messing with the registry or anything:

--Right click on your player in the Device Manager and click Uninstall
--Unplug your player from your computer when the uninstall finishes
--Plug your player back in to your computer
--Vista will automatically reinstall the driver, and your player should appear in My Computer

Unfortunately this is for Vista. I don't believe XP will reinstall the driver automatically, so you may have to install it manually from your Creative CD. Anyway, what this does is simply uninstall the corrupt driver and reinstall it. It worked for me - hopefully it helps you!
