When setting my timers should the manual switch be left in the on or off position?

Either position is fine.
The override is not permanent ON or OFF since it moves back and forth when trippers pass.
The trippers push a lever back and forth that opens and closes electrical circuit.
When the lever moves back and forth, it also clicks the override back and forth with audible sound.
If the timer is ON, you can move the override to OFF.
When the next ON tripper rotates around, it will move the override back to ON.
So the override just temporarily overrides the timer function.

What purpose for the toggle switch under the deck??

Per the DS1 manual the toggle switch under the deck is the SafeSense override switch. The override switch deactivates the SafeSense feature so that you may clear a paper jam. When the switch is in the override (left) position, the SafeSense yellow light will flash and the SafeSense feature will not function. Once the paper is cleared, reset the SafeSense override switch to the right position.

How do I set the temporary or permanent override feature on the Honeywell RTH2310B model thermostat?

To set the temporary override, press arrows up or down to desired temp. This will keep temperature
at temporary setting for 2 hours then return to programming. To permanent override press MODE button until schedule period number disappears (number inside little house on stat). Then adjust temp with arrows. Press the MODE button again to cancel override and return to programmable.

Why is yellow light blinking on top of unit?

Per the DS1 manual the yellow light relates to the SafeSense feature. A toggle switch under the deck is the SafeSense override switch. The override switch deactivates the SafeSense feature so that you may clear a paper jam. When the switch is in the override (left) position, the SafeSense yellow light will flash and the SafeSense feature will not function. Once the paper is cleared, reset the SafeSense override switch to the right position. The SafeSense yellow light turns on when you touch or are too close to the paper insert opening.

How do i set a hunter theromtate #441100. i don't

Set the temp you desire and hit "Hold temp" or "program overide"

Hunter thermostats are notorius for problems.
Whenever I have a customer that is unfortunate enough to be stuck with one I always reccomend they replace it with a "Honeywell" or "White Rodgers" brand T-sat.

What kind of problems you might wonder?
Every kind imaginable.

If yours is not holding the set temp when you tell it to, it's probably not you, 99% chance the thing is simply malfunctioning.

Honeywell TH8320U1008

simply push cancel. That clears the hold feature.

Pushing hold once gets - permanent hold.
Pushing hold twice gets - days of permanent hold. So you can set it if you are going away on a temp and at the end of the days it goes back to normal operation.
