SOURCE: Suction not working

Hi,

Ok first thing to do is remove & clean the 2 piece premotor filter or purchase new.

Now remove soleplate from bottom of machine to do this rotate the 3 plastic screws to unlock position. Lift sole plate off now remove any blockagers or fluff that may be built up over the brush roller.
Remove hair from brush roll using scissors.

Check short clear hose for blockages & any damage rips or tares if it is damaged purchase new hose.

Now look at belts & rotate brush roller it should turn relatively easy if it is difficult to turn by hand remove the brush roller & pull off the end caps the axle will come out with one of the caps.
Check the roller bearings clean away dust build up replace end caps & axle spin roller holding on to end cap if freely to spin refit back on to machine.

If its stiff to rotate you will need new roller.

Now pull off the 2 inspection ports check them for bits of paper etc especialy the (U) shaped port at bottom rear of machine this can contain pens pencills stones all sorts of items that hinder the suction.

Now check the long flexi hose & metal wand for any obstructions.

If after all this machine is still not working correctly go to this site http://dysonmanuals.llc.nu/

On this site you will find Dyson service manuals covering poor suction, clutch, motor, etc.

SOURCE: no suction from the bottom

Check for a clogged airway between the bottom shoe and the hose inlet. The shoe is the area around the brush when looking at the bottom of the floor unit.

SOURCE: suction from hose isnt strong enough. Vacuum

There is probably a clog on the U channel (little Gray tube that attaches to the Vac tubing). Pull it loose and look in side all the tubing.

Vac Belts

SOURCE: I have a DC17 animal vacuum and it is not picking

It could be that you need a new belt. Over time the belt stretches and wears and then it doesn't pick up well. Here is a link to the belt you need.

SOURCE: my dyson vacuum appears to still have suction but it doesnt

That means that the belt is stretched or worn. This causes the roller brush to not be able to turn the way its supposed to against the resistance of the carpet and therefore won't pick up well. You need to replace the belt. Here are the belts you need:

My vacuum has poor suction and I've checked the hoses and cleaned the filters. I don't know what's wrong.

I can't say this is your problem but many people assume their vacuum has no suction because it will not pick up hair or lint from the carpet, when the problem is the belt is stretched and slipping and not spinning the brush roll fast enough. Replace your belt twice a year to clean carpets properly.

My Hoover Remedy Multi-cyclonic vacuum has no suction to pick up from carpet

You either have a broken belt or a clog of lint buildup inside the vacuum.

Hoover vacuum cleaner - have suction in the hose, brush roller spins, but no suction when vacuuming carpet.

There is a clog or blockage in the channel near the roller or where the vacuum hinges at.

Unplug and turn it so that the bottom faces upward and use a screwdriver to open the bottom as you would to change belts. On most upright vacuums, it should only be two to four screws to remove the cover.

While the cover is removed, see if you can spot any noticable obstructions from there. While it is opened, it may also be a good idea to use a pick, screwdriver, or whatever may be handy to pull out any threads, strings or hair that could get tangled around the roller and brushes, to improve performance and last longer. In some cases or on some models, you may need to use a piece of wire or something, bent like a small hook, to reach up into the suction channels a bit to pull out any possible obstructions.
Also check along the path to see if there are other parts that you feel would be easy enough to open and clean out, but only so far as you feel confident in doing yourself, and be sure to not lose any screws and remember where they all go.

Does not pick up lint on carpet

I have a four suggestions. First, check the wand and see if the suction vent is completely closed. If this little vent has the slightest opening, the suction is reduced. cSecond,if that's not the case, you might want to check the brush/roller area. Threads and fibers caught on the brushes can prevent the vacuum from picking up lint. Third, make sure there are no fibers in the wheel of the vacuum head. And fourth, make sure the bag is not full! I often forget to check and back and a full bag is one of the main reasons a vacuum will not pick up items. I hope this helps. If one of my suggestions solves your problem, please contact Fixya and rate my solution!

If your brush roll is turning and your bag is not overly full, then the only other thing it can be is a clog where the bag connects to the vacuum. Turn the plastic part out away from vacuum and lift off to see if you have something clogging it. It would have to be something big, but not so big that it could not get past the fan. As a rule of thumb, KIRBY never clogs. I suspect that your belt is stretched out and your brush roll is not turning while on the carpet so the brush roll is just in the way rather than brushing your carpet to pick up dirt.

The performance indicator light will not go out. I have cleaned the bag, filter and hose. there does not seem to be enough suction.

you are clogged somewhere ...

no suction?
performance indicator says no suction?

find and remove the clog.

id be looking in the hose about 4 inches from where the dirt enters the brush but dont limit your looking. The entire system should be checked for a clog. Remove it and you willbe back in business.

I have 'trash picked' more than 100 vacuums this summer, off the curb. 90 were clogged. I cleaned then and turned them into $.

Not picking up fuzz

I've had a similar problem with my DC07 Animal, although there WAS suction and the machine seemed in otherwise good condition, the vacuum seemed to be working normally, yet very little was vacuumed up. I would go over and over sections of carpet and get very little debris in the container. In my case, the cleaning brush roller bar was competely covered in debris (hair, dirt, string, stuffing from our chewed up dog toys, etc.). I removed the bottom cover and manually removed all this debris from the cleaner/brush roller, reattached the cover and it worked like new with great suction.

Wont pick up

Mine was doing this soon after I bought it. I had to cut the strings, and hair off the brush...cleaned the filter (plastic one) and then it seemed to do better. I still have problems with it getting clogged in the tube once in a while...I usually take a broom stick and push it through...I also have a Kirby, I tell ya I am thinking of spending the money to have it fixed because these cheaper ones aren't very good.
