Question about Computers & Internet
Hi, I have a Gateway Solo 2150 laptop and the screen turned white. When you press on one side of it the picture will come back on. I'm assuming there is a short in the wiring..I have taken it apart (the screen) and everything's connected and fine. I talked with a tech. and they said it could be a short, loose wire. So I'm trying to figure out how to open the laptop to check out the two wires and see if one may be loose. Can you help? Thanks for any help given.
I purchased a processor upgrade for my Gateway 2000 Solo laptop but can't figure out how to open the case. Can you shed some light on how to get access to the inside of this computer?
Here's how to open the laptop case on the solo 2150. i myself have the same computer and learned how to take it apart repairing the power jack. first unscrew all the screws that are visible on the bottom and back of the laptop. also remove the rubber feet under the laptop and remove those screws. after that look at the keyboard and look at the bottom edge of the key board. if you look very closely at the bottom edge you will see little tabs. if you stick a small flathead screwdriver down there you can pry it off. once you have that of you will see a silver panel. next to most of the screw holes are arrows. unscrew only the ones with the arrows next to them. you can then lift the silver panel out. once you have done that you need to locate and remove 6 black screws around the edge of the area that you removed the keyboard from. then carefully unplg the ribbon cable to the keyboard an the wire to the monitor. it should then come off. Good luck.

I found the answer on another wed site. I tried it on my Gateway Solo 1500 and it works! The extra screws are hidden on top. You carefully remove the small face plate around the power button. I used a very small screw drive to lift it off.
Opening Gateway Solo 1400

I'm also an A+ certified tech, but I've done notebook service for a lot of years. I just finished opening up a Gateway Solo 1400 and it was NOT easy! There are no screws holding the keyboard on the bottom of the machine. You can get the case open about 95% and there will be one area stuck, in the back near where the screen cable goes into the unit. There is a hidden screw on the top of the case next to the hinge. To get to it, you have to remove the two screws that hold the plastic hinge cover and pry off the cover. I only managed to find it after removing the keyboard, the display, and the panel with the LEDs and power button. (The screws holding the keyboard are on the top of the machine, underneath the cover with the power button on it.)

Two ways top and bottom,
The top .. usually the keyboard pops off thus revealing wires, components
the bottom.. should have screws to open panels.
