Question about Panasonic PT-43LC14 43" Rear Projection HDTV

1 Answer

Screen Brightness You look like the best expert on this site. Can you help me? Over the past month, my picture has gotten darker and darker. I replaced the lamp (which had actually busted completely the day before my new lamp arrived and caused the TV to power off). I bought the Panasonic TY-LA1000 replacement lamp but not from Panasonic and the picture came back, but was still very dark! Its gotten to the point where it is unwatchable. Any suggestions?

Your ballast may not be up to 100% of its rated capabilities, thats often the cause when the brightness level gets to unwatchable levels. You may need to troubleshoot the ballast voltages a defective ballast can usually cause a lamp to loose about 60 % of its brightness levels. The other possibility could be the DLP mirrors need polishing but that is something better left to a repair shop as the DLP mirrors are sensitive

HDLP61W151 has dark spot in screen

If it happened gradually I would suspect the lamp--a photo posted here might help.

The other possible cause in a Optical light engine which might be very expensive to replace in this brand.

Picture has gotten darker over recent months regarless of signal source and continues to get darker. Brightness is set to maximum.

Your TV most likely has one or more possible problems.

Problem #1: Convergence Chip Failure ( common problem )

Here are some of the most common symptoms and example photos of a convergence problem

  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the tv settings then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move them up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

You need to replace the convergence chips and convergence resistors. Check the site www.TvRepairKits.com. They have put together a kits for most models. If you don't see a kit for your set send them a quick note and they will put one together for you. Their kits include a photo instruction guide, original OEM Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, etc.

Problem #2 CRT Fluid is Cloudy

Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos aroundimages.

What you will need to do is replace the coolant and clean the crt. You can get a repair kit from www.TvRepairKits.com that includes replacement coolant, photos. instructions, etc.

Darker screen after replacing a samsung dlp lamp

DID YOU USE THE FOLLOWING LAMP
BP96-00826A (PHILIPS WRITTEN ON THE LAMP)? ALSO PLEASE CHECK THAT THE LAMP IS COMPLETELY SEATED OR IT WILL RESULT IN BRIGHTNESS ISSUES. THERE WAS ONE THAT I REPLACED THE LAMP IN AND I NOTICED THAT THE DIAL OPENING ON THE LAMP HOUSING WAS A BIT SMALL AND WOULD NOT ALLOW THE COMPLETE SEATING OF THE LAMP AND I HAD A DARK PICTURE AS A RESULT. I USED MY CORDLESS DRILL WITH THE PHILIPS HEAD STILL ATTACHED AND REAMED THE HOLE LARGER AND IT SOLVED THE PROBLEM.
HOPE THIS HELPS.

Picture is getting darker and darker

if the tv has never been service before you could have dust on the 3 tubes, this will decrease the brightness to the screen. try taking the front or back off & see if you can see the top of the picture tubes. remember to unplug the tv & to clean spray the cleaner on the colth , then clean the tup of the tube. never spary on the tube itself. hope this works for you.

You are going to need the assistance of a servicer for this problem,I suggest not to use it until it gets repaired ,shop around for an estimate ,tell them what the symptom is they might tell you about how much it might cost,is hard to tell without measuring some voltages.Be safe and call for help.
