Copying dvds requires using software the breaks the dvd's copyright encryption. This is illegal and not supported by the Geek Squad.

hi, possible reason is that you just copy it in a format that are not supported by your vcr, try to copy it in a dvd using a dvd maker software like nero, or roxio dvd creator.

I have prepared a home movie on Windows Movie Maker and when I copied it to a DVD it would not play on a dvd player can anyone tell me what I did wrong please thanks joe

The reason why the DVD disk you created may not contain the file format the DVD player recognizes. On a normal DVD disk there are two folders - AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS folders. The video files are located in the VIDEO_TS folder. This video folder contains the VTS_xxx.vob video files (the video files has a .vob extension).
The video file you created may have a avi or wmv or mov or mpg extension, whilst these video files can be played on a computer but they won't play on a DVD player.
Check the movie software you are using and make sure it creates the correct file format for a DVD player.

DVD movies not playing but CD-ROM games and CD's do?

With the disk inserted, 1) double-click on MyComputer, 2) right-click on the DVD, and select Auto Play from the resulting menu; a window will appear, 3) click on your favorite DVD playing software and 4) check the little box below to do the same every time you insert a movie (as it used to be).

HP laptop DVD Problems.

Are the DVDs youre having problems playing movies? If so the decoder may be missing. Confirm for us if the disks youre having trouble with are movies. Data DVDs should play with or without a decoder. Programs such as PowerDVD should solve your problem if this is the case.

just go to www.driverguide.com signup there, after you signup, login with your correct username and password. After you login, click manufacturers, click letter t, find toshiba and click it. after the you click it, you are redirected to another page. If you see the search for company drivers search box, enter your the model and number of your hardware which is the dvd rom. and follow the instructions given by that site to download your driver

Good luck!

I am a novice with laptops anyway i have a toshiba tecra just put a dvd in and a caption said, cant play this dvd as you have no dvd decoder. Is this something i have to buy or download?

Yes, You will need to purchase a software DVD Player such as the likes of Cyberlink Power DVD or Intervideo WinDVD,

However, Cyberlink and Intervideo sell Windows Media Player DVD Playback codec packages for $14.95 which will allow you to directly play DVD Movies on your PC.

This is not free since there are licensing involved in many decoder codecs.

Toshiba A305-6825 laptop prolem (no visible CD/DVD Rom drive). In Device Manager: HL-DT-ST dvdram gsa-t40F ATA device error. Media test failure. There appears to be CD/DVD combo drive firmware...

You seem to be onto things (though your problem classification was generic instead of for your Toshiba model A305.) Install all the updated drivers for your laptop from the laptop's support site (Toshiba's, that is) so you can use your drive. Drives fail sometimes, and you could try sticking an old movie or something in there instead of nothing, but it is likely it is just the missing driver.

ERROR INSTALLING PREINST3.SWM

The work around for this is to take the Toshiba restore disk and do a dvd copy disk to disk and use the copies to restore the computer. I had the same problem and the disk would not read correctly. I called Toshiba and they were no help. I saw a post on another web log and they suggested copying the origianl restore disks. They copies ran without a problem.

PATS DVD

Through my computer highlight the file , right click to copy the movie from the disk and put it on your harddrive. Then through your email, make the movie an attachment.
Let me know how you make out.
