What type wireless usb adapter do I need for a compaq evo d510 desktop ?

It's up to you, golfindennis.

I would (And have) purchase the newer models that have Wireless N.

An example,

Now about the router. It has to have wireless capability also. Also make sure the wireless router has a built-in Modem, unless you have one in the line.

(Worried about compatibility? Don't be. Any wireless USB adapter will work with your laptop)

Where is the wireless switch on the dell vostro 200

Unlike notebook computers, most desktops don't come with wireless networking built in. I can't find any mention on Dell's site that the Vostro 200 has wireless capability, so this computer doesn't have a wireless switch. To use your desktop computer on a wireless network, you'll need to install a wireless adapter. USB adapters are very easy to use since you just have to plug them in. They're not expensive and you can easily find them at retail stores and online.

Can the HP Pavilion 763n PC Desktop use a wireless router?

Your computer has a "built-in" 10/100BT network connection integrated on the motherboard but to go wireless you'll have to add either a PCI (internal) or USB (external) wireless network adapter to transmit/receive the signal from your wireless router. Think "walkie-talkie" here with the wireless router installed AFTER the modem (phone line outlet needed) located in a central area of your home and transmitting/receiving to the individual wireless network adapters that must be separately installed in each computer.

Cable and wireless question

Not possible, since the "input" to the 2WIRE modem is a 4-wire telephone-line, not an 8-wire Ethernet cable.

Instead, spend about $40 to buy a D-Link Wireless G modem, and connect its WAN port to the cable-modem, and connect up to 4 Ethernet cables to "wired" computers, and configure the "wireless" component of the D-Link router.

I have a new laptop that i am trying to connect to a wireless connection. I have a speedtouch modem which has a dsl line

Your modem must first have wireless capability. If not, you need to buy a wireless router which you need to connect to the modem. Once you've done that, you can actually call the manufacturer of the router so they can walk you through setting up the wireless connection.

My brother in law has just purchsed an Acer Aspire 5100 desktop. Coming with barely no instructions, we findly got the wireless keyboard and mouse connected, but haven't a clue as to how to connect to...

Hi there Loisy17a/Glen,
To setup a wireless network you will need a wireless router that can also use a standard phone line. (Dial-up).

Help understanding wireless & how to setup. How to setup dial-up. There is no way to walk you through this but the manual that will come with the wireless router will have instructions & phone support to help. NetZero's support is less than Zero. They will blame your PC to your telephone line as a problem. (Good luck)!

My internet keeps dropping out

possible reasons:

Dial up:
  • phone line problem.especially in wet weather, crackling on the line ,call the telco.
  • modem\router on its way out. connect directly to the modem and try it .
  • settings for idle time before disconect needs turning off, (set to 20 minute by default)in most cases.
  • if you have call waiting ,turn it off ,as it can kick you of the net when a call is trying to comes in.
if you use ADSL and/or wireless :
  • some of the above and
  • some USB dongle are prone to drop out,
  • try using a Lan cable
  • brick walls and other hard surfaces can interfere with the signal if you are away some distance from the wireless router.
  • cordless phones can cause problems, keep them away from the modem\wireless router and wireless dongle, or adapter in the pc/laptop
good luck with this and let me know how it goes

1. Make sure you have a Wireless ADSL modem
2 Make sure you have a Wireless conecction in your PC or laptop
3. run the modem software that came with your modem.

ADSL still needs to be connected to a PH line.
