KV-32V42 power to tube sounds weak and picture weakens and goes black

1999 model, this problem happens when you turn it on. When it is turned on ,the power to the tube sounds weak and there will be no picture ,or it will sound strong like it usually does. then in a split second you can hear a click, like a breaker interrupts the process. resulting in audio but no video. The tube in my opinion is in good shape,it seems to be not getting proper power. thanks sony comsume

How old is the TV?
What does the video looks like on the screen when it gets dark?

If the audio is working the whole time when the TV is ON and only the video is affected, chances are that the failure is located in the C board that is connected to the CRT.

IC1701 could be causing this failure as well but it could also be a defective CRT that is arcing internally. Keep and eye on the CRT when the video goes away, if you see any arcing on the CRT, it means is defective.

Tv keeps turning itself off and the white in the picture looks alittle off.

To get the right colors, especially a plain white, requires the right mix of red, green and blue from the picture tube. Sony TV sets have a circuit called AKB that automatically keeps the picture tube balanced by adjusting the signals to it. If that balance can't be achieved it shuts off the picture. This may due to tube aging so one of the color guns is too weak to adjust, or failure of parts in the AKB circuit itself. If the sound stays on and the power light starts blinking when the picture goes off, this is likely why.

On the other hand, if the set is turning off completely with no picture, sound or power light, the set may have power supply problems or defective parts in the picture tube high voltage circuits.

Since there are several possible causes, this set needs to be checked by a technician who can diagnose the problem and decide what needs to be done. It's not a simple thing I can point to and say "change this part". If the picture tube is the cause, it's better to replace the set. Otherwise get an estimate, then decide whether to fix or replace.

After I turn on the TV, there is sound but there is no picture at all... sometimes the picture comes on after couple seconds later it goes off... also the timer/standby indicator is blinking continuosly......

This is a good indication that the picture tube is starting to fail. If you feel comfortable with the back cover off, try the following:

1) Remove the back cover (set the unit on the floor)
2) Locate the flyback transformer (part with large red wire coming out the top)
3) There will be one or two controls on it. One should be labeled screen and the other focus.
4) Turn the screen control slightly clockwise.

If the picture remains on, then the tube is starting to fail and the "fix" will buy you enough time to locate a replacement.

Update this with the results,

Thanks,
Dan

Sony Wega Kv-36XBR250 screen blinking

I have seen this flashing before, this could be an indication that the picture tube is weak, what happens is that if the white balance is off there is a circuit called akb it monitors the kathode of each gun and if they are not in balance it will attempt to balance it out. if it can't the picture will begin to flash, sometimes in some models the power light will blink 5 times. On some models the power light will only flash if the tv gives up trying to compinsate for white balance and shuts off compeletely. If you see the tv shutting off with 5 blinks then you know for sure it is time for a new set.

Standby

I think your picture tube is weak.
You can verify this by taking the back off and slowly adjust the the screen control (it is mounted on the flyback transformer) the one with the wire coming out the top and going to the picture tube
the lower one. it is black and serrated and less than 1/4" in diameter.
turn counter clockwise first then advance it while someone watches for the picture.
If it comes on you know the tube is weak.
it may last for a while at that setting, but be prepared to buy a new set.

Sony kv-32v42

Your two options are to take it to a service shop, or the more likely and probably more cost effective option is to purchase a new Television. The newer model will have a far superior picture quality, cost less per inch of viewable area, and likely have more features than your prior T.V. as well.

good luck

Screen keeps flashing on and off

If the sound goes off too then there are bad solder connections, if it just the picture then the picture tube is getting weak, some times a picture tube rejuvinator can bring some life back for a while.
