No brakes usually means one or two things a leak (in a hose, line, wheel cylinder or caliper) or a bad master cylinder if its full of fluid and doesnt spray out under the car its probly not a leak a way to test the master cylinder is to pinch off all the rubber hoses at the same time and see if the brake pedal is rock hard if it still sinks to the floor youve got a bad master cylinder the hoses will be close to the wheels within a few feet at least make sure you dont pinch the hoses too tight because you can damage them only compress them in half just to where the vise grips are tight cheking the wheel cyliders will require removal of the wheel brake drum (which can be difficult spray wd 40 or similar on the center and through the luggnut holes and smack around the edge with a hammer to break loose you might have to pry a little) amd pulling back the rubber boots on the cylinder if fluid comes out its bad even a little is enough hope this helps post more if no help good luck

Replaceing brake pads 2006 hyundia sonata

Changing the brake pads on a vehicle with calipers if very easy in comparison to drum brake. You, unless you have the strength will need a tool to compress the caliper piston to make room for the new pads to fit over the caliper. After that it is a matter of two bolts to put the caliper back on and bleed the brakes.

Never changed my front brake pads myself before, always paid for it. do i need any special tools to get pads off and such

yes and no, you need a 4 inch or larger C clamp to push the wheel cylinder pistons in, other than that maybe a torx socket, have you ever changed any front disc brake pads before?

Need to replace front rotors and brake pads

All you have to do is take off your calipers and the rotor will slide right off. Use a C clamp to push the piston of the caliper back in so you can put your new brakes on.

How to change the brakes of a 98 cutlass

Some noise is normal for all disc brake system, they have wear indicators that touch the rotor and make a very loud and annoying noise, if this is your case then you need new pads, remember to have the rotor checked for thickness and abnormal wear, all of that can cause brake abnormal noise, if you do replace the pads use quality parts from Know suppliers such as WAGNER and BENDIX, use there new quiet line of brake pads, they produce far less squeak than cheap no name pads that many chain parts stores sell, remember that safety is an issue when changing brake pads, use jack stands and block the wheels.

Brake pads

Its easier than you think. To open the caliper you simply apply pressure and turn the piston, like screwing it in. You must push it in at the same time or it doesn't work.
