After downloading photos onto my

after downloading photos onto my pc and trying unsuccessfully to download vidios the pc now seems to not recognize my camera.I have been able to see the photos and vidios using a tv connection.
How can i determine if the fault is within the camera ,the USB connection cable or my pc?
