My Dell dimension e521 keeps crashing. Dell confidence test of HD presents errors of 4400 011B, medium error (0-0000)in four message blocks so far (25% completed). I also get messages of Device Initialization Failure 4600:0009. SmBios structure 52 has illegal length. OS: Win 7 Home Premium. The computer runs for a short while then goes to a black screen that asks me to boot from my external DVD, which then runs diagnostics. I am trying to determine whether to replace the hard drive, reinstall the OS or replace the computer. Thanks for any advice or wisdom.

Hi ed,
There is a problem with the hardware of the system, In case you have another system to go online , go to the following link
http://tinyurl.com/6khcaf
This would help pin point the problem. What I think is the problem on your system is misaligned memory modules , try reseating them one by one and power on to check change in those front LEDs

Thanks

Issues with 2gb 32ddr dell memory compatible in dell gx280

Unfortunately, the CPU on these computers may be capable of handling the 2GB memory, the motherboard isn't on either system.

The specs for the Dell GX280 are available here: http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/opgx280/en/ug/specs02.htm . This system takes 400 or 533 MHz DDR2 non-ECC memory and the form-factor determines the maximum memory. In the mini-tower format, you have 4 DIMM slots and can have 4 GB of memory. In the small form factor, it takes 2 GB max.

The Dell E310 specs are available here: http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/dim3100/en/sm/specs0.htm . This system can only support 2 GB (2 x 1 GB) memory.

I wish that I had better news for you.

Cindy Wells
(who had a similar Pentium 4 computer with the 1 GB limit. Since that system was running a 32-bit system and only actively addressed 3 GB, I didn't try to put 2 GB sticks in any of the 4 memory slots.)

Dell Dimension E310 won't boot up

this could be your motherboard, but could also be your video or audio card too. try making sure those are seated properly or try replacing one or both, if you so desire.

Dell dimension e310 desk top will not power on

If the POWER Button on the TOWER is blinking AMBER (Yellow) then the most likely failure point is the POWER SUPPLY in the Tower.

Blinking amber light and wont boot up.

if the power button was blinking amber, unplug your tower, and hold the power button for 30 seconds to 1 minute, to use any excess power stored in the capassitors in the pc. this was told to me by a dell tech, it is a small issue with the 3100=E310, and 5150=E510 Dimension desktops

Dell E310 Dimension that won't go on!

Boot the computer into safe mode. Run full-system anti-virus scans to ensure that the system is virus free and to remove any infections that may be present. Reboot system.

Instructions for booting into safe mode:
1) Start system
2) As system is starting, press F8 key
3) Boot menu will come up asking how you want to boot - choose Safe Mode and press ENTER
4) Your computer will start with limited services, no internet connection, etc. This will allow you to check the system and scan for viruses without interference from non-essential services.

Let us know how it turns out.

Hope this helps. Please take a moment to rate this solution. Thanks.
