You need to open the back cover and remove any piece of paper that remains inside the printer.

C4280 printer won't pick up the paper

The instructions are described here.

You might watch this video too. It won't be the same as your printer, but does emphasize the importance of cleaning the rollers that pick up the paper and shows where to find them. Those rollers are the most likely culprit.

Keeps saying to load paper and paper is in tray

Open the front panel and make sure that the rollers are secure. You may need to take out the rollers and clean them to make sure that they are getting enough traction. Also, add paper to the paper tray til it is full and push the papers in the tray all the way to the end. Make sure the clamps that keep the paper lined up are lined up properly as well. One last resort is to do a power down and power up. If none of these things work, then you may need a new roller.

Paper won't load up....

Disconnect the printer from power source and computer. Remove the rear access panel and very carefully use a alcohol moistened cotton swab to clean the all the black rubber pick-up rollers. Use a gentle sideways stroke while cleaning and turn rollers to clean all sides. Allow the rollers to dry and replace the rear cover and power up. Worked wonders for me. HP has certain 3210 printers that have this problem.

Out of paper:

I have the same problem. HP support suggested calibrating the media sensor. Here are the steps they provided to me. It didn't work for me, but it may work for you. 1. Press Left arrow and Right arrow simultaneously on the front panel of All-in-One. 2. Press 3,2,9 on the front panel of All-in-One. 3. Press Left Arrow. 4. Press Ok. 5. Press Left arrow. 6. Press Ok.
