1.Insert the Windows XP CD-ROM into the CD drive, and then restart the computer.
2.Click to select any options that are required to start the computer from the CD drive if you are prompted.
3.When the "Welcome to Setup" screen appears, press R to start the Recovery Console.
4.Press 1 (One) to select windows XP and then hit enter.
5.When you are prompted, type the Administrator password. If the administrator password is blank, just press ENTER.
6.At the command prompt, Type Bootrec /RebuildBcd and then press ENTER.
7.If the Bootrec.exe tool runs successfully, it presents you with an installation path of a Windows directory. To add the entry to the BCD store, type yes. A confirmation message appears that indicates the entry was added successfully.
8.If the Bootrec.exe tool cannot locate any missing Windows installations, you must remove the BCD store, and then you must re-create it. To do this, type the following commands in the order in which they are presented. Press ENTER after each command.
Bcdedit /export C:\BCD_Backup
ren c:\boot\bcd bcd.old
Bootrec /rebuildbcd

It is possible the Master boot Record has become corrupt. You can repair it using a tool for that purpose. Here is a KB article explaining your options and how to use the tool:

First try the Recovery Console options which you access via the F8 key. As your system is booting up, right before, or right when you see your manufacturers logo, but before you see the Windows Logo, begin tapping the F8 key until you see a menu of white words on a black background. Once there follow the instructions at the top most section of the article.
If this does not work you will need the Vista installation or Recovery disk to continue with the more advanced actions. You can use ANY Vista disk, so if you have a friend or family member who has one borrow it and then boot from it. Sometimes you must change the boot menu in order to boot from a disk. If it doesn't boot then you must enter the boot menu and change it so your CD/DVD drive is first in line. If you must do this you will also need to go back and reverse the change so you can boot from your hard disk to see if it worked. It is easy to alter the boot menu. Usually, the key(s) you press are shown on the screen as you boot. Write this down and then reboot and press the key(s). Then, simply locate the appropriate section and make the alterations. You must use your arrow keys to move around the options. There should be instructions on use of keys and how to exit, or save changes and exit.
If you do not know anyone with the Vista disk you will need to contact your manufacturer and request one. Usually all they will do is charge shipping, but you will have to wait until it arrives to try this repair. Sorry about that. That is one reason I insist on a installation or restoration disk when I buy a pre-built system. The manufacturers want to give out as few as possible, and in doing so tell people they don't need the disk because of their hidden recovery partition. However, the hidden recovery partition does not allow for repairs, only putting the system back into factory condition which wipes out everything you have added, all of your changes, and system preferences. Also, if you have not backed up your files you lose them too.
This is the best I can do with the information given. Somebody else may have other idea on how to fix your issue. Good luck and I hope it is simple to correct.

You can defenitely try these steps but if these does not resolve your issue you might have to reinstall the windows. Please make sure you have all the cds for your laptop and also make sure the data has been backed up.

The temp OS does not store data onto your HDD and is used if your compuer is in a unusable state.
I will include the XP, Vista and 7 boot images.
There are a number of possible causes for BOOTMGR errors, including the most common "BOOTMGR is missing" error message.
The most common reasons for BOOTMGR errors include corrupt and misconfigured files, hard drive and operating system upgrade issues, corrupt hard drive sectors an outdated BIOS and damaged or loose IDE cables
Anothe reason you might see BOOTMGR errors is if your PC is trying to boott from a hard drive or flash drive that is not properly configured to be booted from. In other words, it's trying to boot
from a non-bootable source. This also would apply to media on an optical drive or floppy drive that you're trying to boot from.
make sure there are no disks in cd floppy usb drives
Test all power and data leads that attach to your hard drive IDE,SATA
the leads from your ((MOTHERBOARD TO YOUR HARD DRIVE)) make sure they have a secure dust free connections and are not faulty or just replace them they could be faulty
if its a flat ribbon 40 pin IDE it will be the fist to fail
make sure all leads that are attached to your drives dvd\cd have secure connections and are not faulty even the electrical extensions or just replace them they could be faulty a computer needs
data and power to travel through every working device and to continue its cycle and to have an end so any faulty leads will end up with a computer error
also make sure you have set it boot from you hard drive in BIOS
