Keyboard responds time

I've got a problem with my keyboards responds time, I have to hold in a key for about 5 - 6 seconds for it to respond to the computer first a thought it was the keyboard it self that was broken so I bought another PS2 keyboard and still the same problem so maybe I thought it was the PS2 port it self on the motherboard so I got a USB keyboard and still the same problem, as I was trying to fix it last night I restarted the pc and while it was starting up I tested the numlock key and it worked fine but as soon as the xp loading screen came on the there was a delay again. PLEASE please help me I'm getting fed up with this machine and I have a lot a work to finish before next week...

To adjust the key repeat rate

  1. Open keyboard responds time - shortcutcold.gifKeyboard in Control Panel.
  2. On the Speed tab, make changes as follows:
    • To adjust the amount of time that elapses before characters repeat when you hold down a key, drag the Repeat delay slider.
    • To adjust how quickly characters repeat when you hold down a key, drag the Repeat rate slider.

  • To open Keyboard, click Start, click Control Panel, click Printers and Other Hardware, and then click Keyboard.
Good luck and please rate me

I had that problem when I was 'leaning' on the keyboard so to speak...I was holding a Ctrl button and something else at the same time and after so many seconds a window popped up and I barely had time to read it...but it turns out that I inadvertantly triggered the FILTER KEYS...had to go to CONTROL PANEL, then ACCESSIBILITY OPTIONS, then uncheck USE FILTER KEYS. That's all it was!

Hope this helps someone! I've had to help my boss who did this very same thing!

Hold down the shift button for a few seconds to disable sticky keys. This is a windows feature to help people with disabilities and is activated and disabled by holding the shift button down for a few seconds. You can also disable it under start menu/programs/accessories/accessibility

Power Button doesn't work

I have a Dell Studio laptop and sometimes some buttons become not responsive, including the power button. As for power button, I noticed that if you hold it for a few seconds, the laptop will turn on (at least in my case). The fix that works for me is as follows:

1. Turn the laptop off;
2. Disconnect the charger and take out the battery;
3. Wait for a few seconds;
4. Open the laptop lid (as you probably closed it while taking out the battery), push the power button and hold it for a few seconds. Nothing will happen as the laptop won't have any power, but it clears some sort of electrostatic load or whatever it's called;
5. Put the battery back in and turn on the laptop.

I used this for a few times, so perhaps it'll help in your case as well.

My acer 6516 laptop keyboard is locked, and I cannot get it to unlock.

Holding down shift key for more than 8 seconds will lock the keyboard and it will stop responding. But if you keep pressing keys for few seconds you would be able to type in but it will be very slow.
Plus, it will produce a nasty sound.

To get around this, go to start and then settings, then control panel and then finally accessibility options. Make sure all the 3 boxes are unchecked.

HP G60-235DX keyboard not working at all

Try to press Fn + Num Lock or Fn + Scrl lock to check if they keyboard will respond. If it doesnt. try to turn off the computer, remove the cables and battery, press/hold the power button for 8 secs. Reinsert cables and battery then turn on the pc. Press again Fn + Num Lock or Fn + Scrl lock. If the keyboard still did not respond, go to the device manager . Click Start > right click My Computer > Properties > Hardware > Device Manager . Then click the (+) on Keyboards, right click the device and uninstall it. Then, go back to the device manager and right click Keyboard then click Scan for hardware changes. Then press FN + Num Lock or Fn + Scrl lock. If symptom persists, call HP to replace your keyboard.

I hit the shift key too long on my keyboard at work and it asked it I wanted to filter the keys Or whatever and I clicked ok. Now my keyboard is not working. What do I do?

Do you mean your keyboard is now not responding as it should do, or completely not working ?
If you press the SHIFT key 5 times in succession, a box appears asking if you want to change the 'sticky keys' function in Windows.
This means that instead of holding down the keys for SHIFT. CTRL, or ALT, you can just press them once and they will lock on (like an old style manual typewriter used to behave).
It's most likely you now have sticky-keys turned on, so your keyboards going silly.
Press the SHIFT key again 5 times, and that initial box will appear again. Make sure you click on CANCEL using the mouse only. That should fix it.

Try attaching an external keyboard to a USB port on the computer. If it works.

The keyboard cable is probably loose.
