Chances are you are missing the network drivers specific to the model. They are not included in the Windows installation. You may also need sound drivers. Here is a link to the Dell page for your machine where you can download the drivers. Hope this helps!

How to set time

It's really upsetting when a once reliable computer starts to lose time. Most of us rely on our computer clock to keep us aware of the time spent on the Internet or working on a project on the computer. So, time is important. Here is a way to configure the computer so that it automatically synchronizes the time with a time server. Note: You have to be online for the synchronization to take place.

The first step is to open the date and time dialog box located on the task bar on your computer. Should be on the lower right side of the task bar. Double click time to open the dialog box. The date and time box should open on the desk top. Now click the Internet time tab. Check the box that says automatically synchronize with an Internet time server. Then you will see a list of servers. Select a server from the drop down list. Check apply and close the box. Now every time you go on the Internet Windows will automatically set the computer clock to the right time. Now, there is no need to worry about adjusting the computer clock again!

Here are the recommended steps to connect to a wireless base router 1. Check and remove power from both your router and the DSL ROUTER/CABLE ROUTER MODEM 2. Wait one complete minute until applying power to modem then wait one minute before applying power to wireless router. 3. Ensure you have green lights across both devices, specifically, the recieved and sent lights. These same lights will tend to blink rapidly when there is active data, at times this will still blink, and a DNS error will prevent you from connecting to the internet. If this is the case, call your ISP Internet service provider 4. Check your authentication Security key on your router first, then check all your wireless devices to ensure they are on the same network name, key, and channel with the same type of encryption as the router 5. Start one device at a time and check for connectivity, if your still experiencing a problem, check the settings on all your wireless adapters, device drivers, internet browser settings, firewalls and proceed. 6. still have problems, connect a rj45 cable from the router directly to your computer to at least see if your wireless settings are bad or if the router may be bad. 7. Contact your ISP to determine if your receiving singal 8. Avoid using a splitter or parital power backup for yours routers 9. Still having problems, change your wireless router only after your ISP changes their faulty modem 10.Attempt the same process when setting up your new wireless router and or modem

How to install web camera

Things that you will need:
  • Webcam
  • Internet connection
  • USB cable
  • Software
==========================================
  1. Purchase a camera. Webcams can range from a basic model for around $30 to ones that contain a motion sensor for around $350 or so. Most mid-priced models come with a microphone install. Decide on what this camera will be used for and choose accordingly.
  2. Read the installation instructions completely before attempting to install the camera. Although this may seem tedious and unnecessary, it can save time and headaches in the long run.
  3. Back up the computer's hard drive just to be safe. This will allow for a speedy recovery should the installation mess up the computer.
  4. Install the webcam software. Before deciding to install the disc that came with the camera, check the Internet for an updated version of the software and download that if available.
  5. Plug in the webcam. The software should give a prompt at the appropriate time. Cameras are usually installed with a USB cable. If installed correctly, the computer will acknowledge so by popping up a message saying it can see the new device.
  6. Download an instant message program if using the web camera for chatting. Some free IM download programs include Yahoo Messenger, AOL Instant Messenger and Apple iChat.
