Question about MSI K8MM-V Motherboard

Can't activate Soundblaster LIVE 5.1 audio card on msi k8mm-v

I tried moving a SoundBlaster Live! 5.1 audio card from one PC to another (an msi k8mm-v). The SB Live! software seems to install the drivers, but upon reboot, Windows reports a missing DevCon5.dll. SB diagnostics simply report the card is not installed. Windows add new hardware wizard can't find a suitable device driver on the SB CD or on the Internet.

I presume I should disable the on-board audio, can't find a CMOS option to do that. What do I need to do?

Ok I found the DLL on the disk and copied it Windows\System. The bigger problem is that the SB install disk seems to install the drivers, but Windows does not locate the device. I guess I need to disabled the onboard sound on the K8MM-V MSI mobo, but there's no CMOS option to do that and nothing on the utilities disk they provided for it either. Any ideas?

Locate the file from your other machine and copy it over. it will most likely not be the only missing file.
Windows device manager will almost never find a suitable driver on the web and you may need to locate it yourself from the installation cd.

How to disable onboard sound on the ASUS P5QPL-AM Motherboard ? Can't seem to find it in the bios... Installed a soundblaster but there's no sound.

Have you installed the Soundblaster drivers? Have you plugged your speakers in to the soundblaster outputs? When you install a discrete card (graphics or sound) it bypasses the onboard chips. You could also try the audio settings in the control panel.

I want audio driver to window7

Hello the msi site is here:

http://www.msi.com/product/mb/K8MM-V.html#/?div=Driver&os=All

Only vista is supported but here is no sounddriver, so you have to install a sound card like creative soundblaster to support windows 7.

Good luck

NO Audio even after putting in own sound card

Difficult to diagnose from afar but go to Start>Run, then type 'dxdiag' without quotes and see if; when it does a sound and video test anything shows up.
