52hn95 sucks I have one that I bought in 06 and have replaced 2 lamps at 300 and something a pop. Toshiba is no help and they don't care that this model is junk, oh ya now it is making a loud buzzing noise and the repair man said it is the color wheel and it will cost 800, so after spending 2400 on it I think I'm going to take it to the dump.... Tell your friends not to buy Toshiba

I feel the same way about this model. Never had so many problems with a Toshiba t.v. before. Thank God we bought the service contract!

I heard a pop on the Toshiba rear projection TV (model #62hmx84) and immediately lost the picture

Sir the problem of your unit is the lamp try to replace it it is much better to use a gloves and wash your hand after replacing the lamp because this lamp contains mercury. follow this steps.
1. Unplug the unit to main ac outlet. Remove the bulb housing cover from the back of the TV. Using a screwdriver, carefully remove the cover to reveal the old bulb. Using a cloth, remove the bulb from the TV by first unplugging it from the wiring harness. Carefully rock the harness back and forth until it comes free from the bulb. Push in the bulb slightly and turn it a quarter-turn to remove it from the bulb housing.
2. Install the new bulb. Do not touch the new bulb with your fingers, as any grease or fingerprint from your hands will damage the tiny mirrors in the bulb. Instead, carefully handle the bulb using the cloth. Insert it into the bulb housing and secure the door. Test the unit. Plug in and turn on your Toshiba TV and make sure that the new bulb is installed properly and that the image looks crisp.

3.
Reset the lamp time counter. Each Toshiba TV comes with a lamp hour meter stored in its software. If you do not reset the lamp timer, the unit may stop operating when it gets to a certain time (refer to your manual because each Toshiba TV is slightly different). To reset your Toshiba lamp timer, turn off the TV, wait 10 seconds, hold down the "on," "menu" and "input" buttons on the remote at the same time, and turn the power back on. A yellow light should appear in the bottom corner of the TV indicating that the lamp timer has been reset.
Hope this help good day and best regards.

Toshiba 62hm196 just replaced lamp 2 weeks ago and this one is blown to, fan is working fine is it just a bad lamp or could something else be causing failure? When i inserted the replacement it fit...

It could be the ballast. The ballast is what fires the lamp and an over or under voltage to the lamp could cause it to blow prematurely. A clogged fan could also be causing the issue if the lamp is not cooling correctly but you said the fan was fine.

It could had just been an defective lamp, send the lamp back to where you bought it and tell them it was defective. There also should be return instructions that came with the lamp and also warranty information.

I had this same problem over the summer, I had my TV for two years before it went out. You need a new lamp. The lamp is not hard to replace on your own. However, you MUST make sure that you do not touch the lamp (the bulb part) in anyway. If you do your new lamp will not last as long. You can order the lamps online. They range anywhere from 150-300 dollars online. However, I found a TV repair company in my city that only charged me 100.00 for the lamp and they told me If I took out the box that holds the lamp they would replace the lamp for me. They also gave me a 1 yr warrantee on the lamp. All I had to do was un-screw the box from the back of the TV take the box to the TV repair company and I placed the box back into my TV. My TV works. While going through this process, I learned that these lamps go out all the time, the more you watch the TV the more often you'll replace the lamp. I was told from the repair company it could be as often as every year. The Lamp does have MURCURY in it so if you replace the lamp on your own be careful and have it recycled. If you live in SLC UT the repair company I went though was Village TV Sales and Service.

Google Toshiba 52HM95 Service Manual. There is a site that will download it to you for $11.99. However, the section about removing the light engine is not very good. I tried it with mine and could only get the engine out a couple of inches. It would get caught on some of the wiring where I couldn't find a plug to unplug it. Sorry, but this is a tough one.

Take out the lamp and clean it. Look inside where the lamp was and you will see a thin peice of coloured plastic (colour wheel). Vacuum that plastic and all around it but don't touch it. This solution worked for me, and now my TV is as good as new.

My set switches from low lamp to bright lamp on its own constantly

I just got mine back from the shop withe a similar issue. The picture would dim especially with dark scenes and you could actually hear the lamp popping and clicking. It was not consistent enough that I had to video tape the issue for the technicians. In short, they decided that the ballast was faulty, unfortunately, the only way to replace the ballast is to replace the entire light engine. The part is about $320 and they also replaced the lamp for $150. The extended warranty would have only covered parts I believe so you may have ended up OK.
