DVD plays only in black and white

Hi
I just got a new samsung flat screen TV.  My dvd player is playing only in black and white, the cable tv works fine.  Everything works completely fine except that the dvd plays with no color.  I checked all the settings I could figure out and can't find anything that is set to black and white or anything.  I noticed that the cord going from cable to TV has 3 video plugs (red, blue, and green).  My dvd to TV has only the 1 yellow video plug.  Could this be the reason?

I have connecting cords (with yellow, red, white plug-ins, but I'm not successful so far in getting TV (a Sharp LC-205H1U flat screen) to play a DVD on the Emerson DVD/VHS player. I've lost the instruction that came with it.

Don't know what channel the tv should be on or if I have to set something up. This is my 1st flat screen tv. Couldn't find anything in the manual and the remote on tv or cable have no dvd button.

Hey, I had this problem on Thanksgiving Day, trying to watch a dvd on my mother's HDTV. You should be able to hook up most standard dvd players to hdtvs. First you have 3 cords, mine were red, yellow, and white. The connections go as follows:

HDTV:
Audio| Component. The white cord should be in a white audio slot. The yellow cord should be in a yellow component slot (video) and the red cord should be in a red video component slot labeled Pr/Cr. Make sure you match the component numbers. For instance, if you want to use component one, then hook all of the cords into the slots for component one. Most hdtvs have multiple component hookups ( think multiple "channels" for your game system, dvd player, etc) so it's important that the corresponding cords go to the correct component slots.

DVD:
Match the yellow and white cords to the appropriately colored slots. The red cord should go into the slot labeled component video out Cr/Pr. Not the red audio out. This worked for me. Hope this helps.

The only way I got sound was to put yellow in video slot. White into component slot on TV and REd in the audo read input. If I put it in the component red part I lost the sound. But I get no color.

New Samsung 32 in LCD TV, dvd played in black & white; How do I get my color?

Susan,
Interesting problem! Have you tried another DVD or another source such as cable or broadcast programming? What model do you have, is the DVD integral to the TV? Any chance it is a B&W dvd!?

If the DVD is built into the TV, try and DVD cleaner Disk.

If it is external, try a different DVD player and disk.

When playing DVD on panasonic plasma TV, the color is black and white

Consult the owner manual for the player (and or try it on another set) as many players have settings that can cause B&W or a single color display for the image.

My dvd player is hooked up to t.v. but only plays movies in black/white

How is the DVD player connected to the TV? If you are using component video, check that the cables are connected correctly.

If you switch the order on two of the cables, the black and white result is common. So double-check that the red, blue and green connections (RPbPy) have been connected to both devices in the same order. Next try a different set of component video cables, in case one of the wires is damaged.

If possible, try a different type of connection to rule out a damaged input/output. Connect the TV to a different DVD player or the DVD player to another TV, if possible, to rule out similar damage.

Please add a comment with the connection type for additional support. I hope this helps.

We have a new VISIO HD TV. We have a Sony DVD/VHS combo player. Tried playing DVD and picture comes up in 480 dpi, in black and white instead of color and you can see pixels.

Assuming that there is no issue with the brand new TV or the DVD player....

1. Black and white issue could be due to a misrouted video component cabletomcattech17.jpg

2. The pixels could be just a problem with the low resolution that the DVD may be putting out or the current aspect ratio setting.

I have a Sharp DVD player connected to my new Samsung TV model UA32C4000. However DVD's only play as black nd white enen though cable connections appear correct.

Try changing the video setting on your DVD player from NTSC to PAL or vice versa depending on what country you are in.
If you cant find it in the menu / set up, have a look and see if you can change it on the TV.
