How well lit is the space your in? Are you not using long enough of an exposure?

Sorry but I gotta ask, is the lens cap on?

Manual requires you to set the shutter speed and aperture manually. check the values. also make sure the meter, (the bar that slides l-r ) is centered when setting the aperture and shutter. if the bar is all the way to the right, the subject is underexposed and will appear very dark . :)

Black screen when trying to take a picture and photos come up black.

The problem you are describing is a problem with one of the chips in the camera that controls image processing. It seems to have failed and needs to be replaced. Following are the instructions to send your camera to Olympus for service.

http://olympusamerica.com/cpg_section/cpg_servicerepair.asp

Olympus will charge a flat rate repair fee for this product if beyond the one year factory warranty or the warranty is voided. The cost is $47.85 plus your local sales tax. This covers parts and labor, factory cleaning and diagnostic check, 6 month warranty and the cost of shipping the product back to you is all included in that price.

My pictures are black i cant see anything when i try to take a picture

Your pictures will usually come out black if you're taking those against the light. Check the lighting or your flash (esp. when it's dark - flash is needed). You should know if your camera is for indoor or outdoor use.

Camera will take picture, but the picture is coming out black!!!! Help Please!!!

Dear vera11:

The symptoms you're describing sound like a classic case of having a faiiled CCD image sensor.

First try pressing the display (DISP) button on the back of your camera several times to see if your image returns at any time. One of the three display modes is "off" to preserve battery life. Your problem may be as simple as inadvertently pressing this button into the off mode.

If that doesn't work, try doing a reset and then removing your batteries from the camera for a few minutes, reinstalling them and turning the camera on to test the LCD screen.

If your screen is still black, but you can clearly see pictures taken previous to the problem, and you can clearly see the menu system when you press the MENU button, then you likely have a CCD sensor problem. Contact Canon Tech Support at 1-800-828-4040 to have the camera repaired.

Hope this helps.

Sincerely,
HeavyDLB
