I pruchased this TV 3 years ago . It worked great until a couple months ago. The picture is clear, the sound is great, it does hesitate to come on when I first turn it on; however, now, there is a black screen about 2 inches from top, it is as if the picture is falling down and it does not correct itself. This is a horzional bar that stays black. Is this a major thing or is it fixable. Thank you.

Sounds like a problem in the high tension side of tv, wether it is the transformer or leakage remains to be seen. Also because it is aggravated by damp weather.
The Magnavox 27MS343S is a standard analog 27" TV. It is not high definition and therefore cannot generate a posterized or pixelated picture. I will bet you are using a digital cable box or satellite reveiver and the problem is in that box, not the TV. Hook up a regular VCR to the TV, set the TV to channel 3, put in a good pre-recorded tape and hit PLAY. If the tape plays nice and clear on the TV, the problem is in your digital box.
Probaby the stereo decoder IC went bad or a supply voltage to it is too low or noisy. If it has audio output jacks on the back of the TV, connect it to an external amplifier and see what that sounds like. If it is ok in stereo or mono mode then the amplifier in the TV is bad. This will prove that the stereo decoder is ok.
