Just tried calling the 1800 number

Hello. I have a 60v500 model, but i am having the same blue ghost problem. I read your post and was very shocked when the people i dealt with at that number were very rude to me. The basically said too bad so sad, and could give me a number to get a local dealer to replace it. The said absolutly under no circumstances would hitachi pay for the part. could you give me a hand and tell me what i did wrong. thanks

    I purchased my hitachi 50v500 in november of 2003. When it first was delivered it was out of focus as if it was dropped. I had the tv replaced and within two years the bulb had to be replaced. Now the tv is blue. It started in the right side of the tv then slowly progressed covering the whole screen. I feel like a kid again watching the smurfs.

It's really sad that Hitachi has resorted to not taking care of it's customer's anymore regarding the obvious light engine DEFECT! Several of us on fixya dealt with Hitachi's customer relations department, got a new light engine and our set is like brand new. I personally sent out over 80 suggestions related to this problem. I have to believe that they've stopped due to the number of us that have had problems and the $$ it's cost them...too bad! Make a product that last like they use to! This is our second Hitachi TV and it will be our last. They did send a new light engine and it fixed our set which looks great...for now. Having said that, there are too many other, reputable companies to go with that will take care of the customer long after the sale.

We just bought a 42" Samsung for our master bedroom and we were sure to get the 4 year extended warranty. In the past, we would have never considered getting the extended warranty because things lasted. Not anymore!

I'm certainly not one of the "conspiracy theory" types but one would have to wonder. Over the past 10 years, my husband and I have bought 2 Hitachi sets that cost around $8000 total. Do they now have a "short shelf live" so to speak to keep us buying a new set every 3-4 years?? I have a friend that has a 25" Sanyo that she bought at Kmart 10 years ago and it's still going strong. Makes you wonder...hummmm!

    Sounds like you did nothing wrong. More and more people are posting that Hitachi is now refusing to acknowledge the problem and fix it. We had our light engine replaced in November and it went very smoothly. I've posted over 80 suggestions on this website and several of us have had no problem getting this part replaced despite the fact that we are way outside of our warranty. Sounds like to me, they've had a lot of people call and now they're going to throw their hands up and say "we're done". "Those that got the part free, great!" "Those that didn't "oh well."



    These light engines that Hitachi put in this model and the 60v500 are defective. That's what the certified dealer told us when he came out. Very similar to defective car parts that car manufactuers end up recalling. They put the part in and only months or years later, do they realize that a certain part is "defective" so they recall it. I know we're talking about the safety of a car verses a television set but it's the same concept.



    Hitachi should really step up to the plate and recall this part but you and I both know that they're not going to do that. At $1500 a pop (I'm sure that's not their cost) they would lose way too much money. When a few of us called and complained, they stepped up to the plate and made it right. Now that there's been several they've replaced, sounds like they're done...it's not right at all!



    Despite the fact that replaced our light engine and our TV works great (who knows for how long) I will NEVER buy from Hitachi again. In this day and age with electronics, it's a grap shoot to begin with but there are lots of nice sets out there made by companies that stand behind their product. Obviously Hitahci does not. I'm so sorry!

Diamond Vision is actually manufactured by Mitsubishi, so you can use this website to figure out the remote model # using your TV's model #. Then you can call the 1800 number listed on the top of the page to order it :)

I have had my tv for about 2-years. I am now getting ghosting,and lines when i first turn it on. Then it is fine when it warms up. Now it stays bad longer and longer. I have read on line quite a few...


If you purchased an extended warranty with it then call up the store you bought it from and see if they will service it. If you didn't buy the extended warranty then you might be out of luck. The ghosting and lines was a problem that we saw at best buy. It always required a service or a new screen. You might also check the samsung website and see if they have a new firmware update for your T.V. If you could post your model number I can look up to see if there is a new firmware update for your T.V.

If you are seeing blueish streaks on areas of the screen, it is caused by the Optical Block. You may want to call Sony to see if it qualifies for a recall. They have had a lot of issues with their Optical Blocks for a number of their models. The Customer Service Number is 1800-222-SONY. The cost of a Optical Block for this model runs around $700.00.

There is a red spot and distortion in the middle of the screen. I changed the lamp but it did not help (hitachi 50v500) LCD rear projection TV


I do not have good news for you---this model is prone to the optical light engine going bad---usually a red oval area in the middle of the screen----I have also read that there are now several class action lawsuits related to this problem in this set. You can Google the model number and you will set what I am talking about.

I have replaced several light engines(called an optical engine) in this model--both the 50V500 and the 60V500 have this problem.

The last time I checked the optical engine wholesaled for about 600 dollars and is major labor to replace--I had someone else here ask me about this set---He was in Canada and the first time he called Hitachi he was told they were not aware of any problem--after posting here with me he called them back and someone admitted they knew about this but had been told not to say anything or admit any problem---thousands of these sets all have the same problem.

Clearly the set is not worth a 600 dollar part plus labor---considering the cost of new sets, but the only other option you have is to try to connect with one of the several class action lawsuits---I found them by typing the model number and lawsuit after it on Google.

I know I am not giving you good news but I know this set.

If you only have it for about a couple of months, best thing to do is call this number:

1800-243-0000

It could be the main pcb is not working properly or it could be a board. Make sure you still have your receipt, the model number and the serial number of the unit before you call.

Insignia tv shock power on/off on its own


I have experienced the same issues, I called Insignia about this particular problem, I explained that this TV shocked me and now won't work, there explanation is that because I was out of warranty there is not much they can do, never mind that they had a particular model that a recall with the same issues as there 26 inch model, when the TV shocks u, it's usually your main board gone bad,
All I can do now is complain on these boards and inform other consumers of how bad of a product this is and to stay away from this brand due to the fact have poor designs on these models.
I will continue to ***** and complain, on Facebook and other post until maybe someone listens and decides not to buy a piece of **bleep** like this, what a joke, will start a class action law suit, remember the more u complain, they will eventually have to listen to you just like they did with their 26 inch models they will do it for other models so hold on to your sets this one's due for a recall.
They also said that they can't find any threads on their insignia boards, just type shocked and u will find threads, and if u want to do a Google search type insignia and your model number and see how many threads u will find about their faulty boards, I'll be back to add these post with links of how much of a piece of **bleep** this TV really is..
