Question about Hitachi 50V500 50 in. HD-Ready LCD Television

Just tried calling the 1800 number

Hello. I have a 60v500 model, but i am having the same blue ghost problem. I read your post and was very shocked when the people i dealt with at that number were very rude to me. The basically said too bad so sad, and could give me a number to get a local dealer to replace it. The said absolutly under no circumstances would hitachi pay for the part. could you give me a hand and tell me what i did wrong. thanks

    I purchased my hitachi 50v500 in november of 2003. When it first was delivered it was out of focus as if it was dropped. I had the tv replaced and within two years the bulb had to be replaced. Now the tv is blue. It started in the right side of the tv then slowly progressed covering the whole screen. I feel like a kid again watching the smurfs.

It's really sad that Hitachi has resorted to not taking care of it's customer's anymore regarding the obvious light engine DEFECT! Several of us on fixya dealt with Hitachi's customer relations department, got a new light engine and our set is like brand new. I personally sent out over 80 suggestions related to this problem. I have to believe that they've stopped due to the number of us that have had problems and the $$ it's cost them...too bad! Make a product that last like they use to! This is our second Hitachi TV and it will be our last. They did send a new light engine and it fixed our set which looks great...for now. Having said that, there are too many other, reputable companies to go with that will take care of the customer long after the sale.

We just bought a 42" Samsung for our master bedroom and we were sure to get the 4 year extended warranty. In the past, we would have never considered getting the extended warranty because things lasted. Not anymore!

I'm certainly not one of the "conspiracy theory" types but one would have to wonder. Over the past 10 years, my husband and I have bought 2 Hitachi sets that cost around $8000 total. Do they now have a "short shelf live" so to speak to keep us buying a new set every 3-4 years?? I have a friend that has a 25" Sanyo that she bought at Kmart 10 years ago and it's still going strong. Makes you wonder...hummmm!

    Sounds like you did nothing wrong. More and more people are posting that Hitachi is now refusing to acknowledge the problem and fix it. We had our light engine replaced in November and it went very smoothly. I've posted over 80 suggestions on this website and several of us have had no problem getting this part replaced despite the fact that we are way outside of our warranty. Sounds like to me, they've had a lot of people call and now they're going to throw their hands up and say "we're done". "Those that got the part free, great!" "Those that didn't "oh well."

    These light engines that Hitachi put in this model and the 60v500 are defective. That's what the certified dealer told us when he came out. Very similar to defective car parts that car manufactuers end up recalling. They put the part in and only months or years later, do they realize that a certain part is "defective" so they recall it. I know we're talking about the safety of a car verses a television set but it's the same concept.

    Hitachi should really step up to the plate and recall this part but you and I both know that they're not going to do that. At $1500 a pop (I'm sure that's not their cost) they would lose way too much money. When a few of us called and complained, they stepped up to the plate and made it right. Now that there's been several they've replaced, sounds like they're's not right at all!

    Despite the fact that replaced our light engine and our TV works great (who knows for how long) I will NEVER buy from Hitachi again. In this day and age with electronics, it's a grap shoot to begin with but there are lots of nice sets out there made by companies that stand behind their product. Obviously Hitahci does not. I'm so sorry!

If I'm reading your note, Australian law says first call to manufacturer. The number from the website is 1-866-579-7172
I verified that this is a toll-free number, though I don't know if that applies to international calls.

I also found this listing for help numbers in Australia It lists 1800 071 578 and 1800 071 578 as numbers to call that I dare say aren't US based ones (or at least should transfer the call on their dime) The second number is explicitly called out as Customer Service.

My television have a yellow circle around the center but around the perimeter is a bunch of blue dots

If its (no model indicated here) a DLP with a lamp its a b a d optical light engine.

other than that I need a model number like 60V500 etc.

When lining up convergance, green lines up in the center, red lines up perfectly with that but the blue is way off. on the single cross and even more off on the multiple cross but mostly on just the right...

hello the problem is down to the convergance ic, there are 2 big black chip that sit on metal frame called a heatsink they are usually located behind the tuner board on the right side of the tv,stk-110 may be the part number, also in front of the ic are some resistors and 2 capacitor at either end these will need to be tested ,
you have to desolder 1 end of the resistor so you get a proper reading on the mulitmeter, it's lot of work but if you can do it yourself it would cost about 40 to 60 pound good luck

There is a red spot and distortion in the middle of the screen. I changed the lamp but it did not help (hitachi 50v500) LCD rear projection TV

I do not have good news for you---this model is prone to the optical light engine going bad---usually a red oval area in the middle of the screen----I have also read that there are now several class action lawsuits related to this problem in this set. You can Google the model number and you will set what I am talking about.

I have replaced several light engines(called an optical engine) in this model--both the 50V500 and the 60V500 have this problem.

The last time I checked the optical engine wholesaled for about 600 dollars and is major labor to replace--I had someone else here ask me about this set---He was in Canada and the first time he called Hitachi he was told they were not aware of any problem--after posting here with me he called them back and someone admitted they knew about this but had been told not to say anything or admit any problem---thousands of these sets all have the same problem.

Clearly the set is not worth a 600 dollar part plus labor---considering the cost of new sets, but the only other option you have is to try to connect with one of the several class action lawsuits---I found them by typing the model number and lawsuit after it on Google.

I know I am not giving you good news but I know this set.

Samsung rear projection tv, have fault of ghosting red to the right hand side, this started out of the blue with no faults before

sounds like the convergence ICs need replacement. Whats the model number of your set? Please respond to this same post with your model number.
