Lights come on when plugged in, doesn't heat up and has a beeping sound , colour panel is red thankyou

Read the operator's instructions. They are available of the Russell Hobbs site or by contacting Russell Hobbs UK on-line through the "Contact" link. In most cases, steam irons tend to clog with hard water deposits and need to be de-scaled from time to time. If that doesn't help you, buy a new iron. Rowenta's seem to perform best.

Premature shutting off

Have you try with lower heat setting?
It seems like it might be thermostat or thermal fuse that is not working properly.

My iron's MODEL: 14977Z The iron's red light is on but won't heat to iron. was working a couple of hours ago

This is typical of a iron, it is cheaper to replace than to repair. The heating element is broken.

Rowenta Iron problems

inside the iron is a thermal switch that has failed to make contact. Dissassemble the iron and you will see a small white ceramic pin sticking up out of the heating chamber and on tip there is a small contact. Above it is another contact that makes the heating element work. Easiest way to fix is to put a small bead of glue on the housing to force the contacts together.
