Hi Kmantapeman,
yes it could be the motherboard problem but what I would like to test here first is remove some component one-by-one and try to turn your notebook on and see...(see mean any noise or light come up)
1.remove battery
2.remove harddrive
3.remove memory
4.if possible remove cdrom
5.anymore incase you have
if nothing work then its a motherboard problem.
goodluck,takecare.

Asus x553m wont power up. Not turning on or charging

OK, first make sure that the power supply/charger is in working condition, tested in another Asus computer. IF it works, then your MB (Mother board) is fried.
Sometimes the BIOS get stuck, but that can be fix by taking out the battery and press and hold the power button for a minute. This will clear or reset the BIOS. But if it doesn't show any sign of charging, it's either the battery, charger or MB.

if you have a volt meter you can test the supply for the correct voltage.
if the power pack is fine then the laptop motherboard is most likey bad.

quick thing to try is unplug the power and remove the battery plug in the power pack and try it with the battery out.

Try remove the battery and unplug it from the AC. Hold down the power button for 35-45secs. plug AC back and see if you can power it back on. If not, the motherboard is shot.

Tech says i need new motherboard computer won´t turn on

Before you buy a new mother board, (the L300D-13S board is around $185 from China), remove your battery, leave it for about 5 minutes. Use only the Mains power supply and see if it will switch on.
Fit the battery, plug in the Mains Charger and see if the battery charge light comes on. If it does and it won't give you a screen or flash the hard drive light or power up the hard drive, then I am inclined to go along with a replacement Mother Board.
The laptop has to complete the POST and if it doesn't that usually points to Mother Board problems.
Were you trying to upload a newer version of the BIOS before it failed?
Good luck but check ebay and beware there are some really dodgy frauds out there.

My inspiron 1420 does not turn on.when i push the power button the light comes on then goes off. can someone tell me where i should check first?

Power supply and or battery. Take the battery out and try to start it with the ac supply only.

If you can find one try another power supply too. Sometimes when your power supply goes bad you just run the battery down till the day it wont restart.

If you have a volt meter you can read the output of the power supply and make sure it is putting out the right voltage.

Hi
I presume you checked the DC power supply. Don't use a generic power supply on this model, because that will cause alot of different symptoms. I use the exact same model on service calls. A further way to test the mother board is to remove the CPU and memory. Carefully provide power and look for lights. If none, my next step would be to refloat the video chip. This requires special equipment. A replacement mother board without processor on eBay is $49.00 so it might be time to consider that. Good luck

This is a common problem, these adapter go faulty all the time, you need to test with a meter, or get a replacement Power Adapter... You need to take out battery and plug in adapter all laptops should work, with just the Power Adapter connected, if it doesn't then it is faulty.. well that OR laptop.. When you get a new charger you will need to leave charging at least overnight to recharge the battery.

I used the wrong adapter by mistake now my laptop wont come on, i'm sure i fried something , the only thing it does, is the power lightly faintly clicks very rapid. Nothing else.

Yes you are correct. Due to wrong adaptor the power supply known as SMPS gets fried and causes mother-board damage too. So you need to repair your laptop's mother-board components and power supply too.

If this solution was helpful to you then please rate 100% (or FIXYA) for this solution, otherwise don't rate at all. It was my pleasure helping you.

bad system board. not much more than that. or the ac adapter may have the green light on but nothing coming out the low voltage side. i am going with that the power module which intergrated into the system board is bad. needs to be replaced.
