Disable the service,

hold down windows key and press r

type in services.msc

then from the services list find Microsoft Software Shadow copy Provider - thats the one i beleave.

Right click, properties, startup type, disabled. then stop the service.

You shouldnt get any more errors and the service is not required so everything should work normally.

SOURCE: I have freestanding Series 8 dishwasher. Lately during the filling cycle water hammer is occurring. How can this be resolved

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

You may also download the Norton removal tool and completely remove all the components of Norton. Check if that helps.

MY LAPTOP IS HP PAVILION dv6 I get the error message vssx80042317 or vss writer failed when I try to run a restore. Also in IE9 when I click on a link nothing happens.

3. On the Edit menu, click Delete, and then click Yes to confirm that you want to delete the subkey.

4. Exit Registry Editor.

5. Click Start, click Run, type services.msc, and then click OK.

6. Right-click the following services one at a time. For each service, click Restart:

  • COM+ Event System
  • COM+ System Application
  • Microsoft Software Shadow Copy Provider
  • Volume Shadow Copy

7. Click Start, click Run, type cmd, and then click OK.

8. At the command prompt, type vssadmin list writers, and then press ENTER.

From your description, I understand the issue to be: you received VSS error 0x8007042d.

I. First please re-registry the following DLLs to see if it helps:

1. Stop the Volume Shadow Copy service: Open a command prompt and change
directories to \WINDOWS\system32 (this is important when you begin
registering the DLLs):

net stop vss

2. Then register the following DLLs and services (be sure you're still in
the WINDOWS\system32 directory at your command prompt):

regsvr32 ole32.dll
regsvr32 vss_ps.dll
Vssvc /Register
regsvr32 /i swprv.dll
regsvr32 /i eventcls.dll
regsvr32 es.dll
regsvr32 stdprov.dll
regsvr32 vssui.dll
regsvr32 msxml.dll
regsvr32 msxml3.dll
regsvr32 msxml4.dll

Start the Volume Shadow Copy service by running "net start vss", do a test
backup and see how it goes.

II. If the issue persists, Let's perform these troubleshooting steps:

1. Make sure you can use OSQL to connect to every running instance of
SQL/MSDE on the box, if you can not disable all of the instances.

You can find all of the instances installed on your server, by looking at
this registry value: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL
Server\InstalledInstances

The syntax would be "OSQL -E -S <servername>\<instancename>

For example OSQL -E -S server\SharePoint

If you can't connect to the database, then it will cause this type of
failure.

Also make sure that each of the SQL/MSDE instances is either running under
the Local System account or a Domain Admin account.

2. The issue may occur if there is corrupted data on the drive to be backed
up. Please run CHKDSK on each drive with the /f switch to fix the errors on
the disk (if there are any).

3. Per my experience, this issue can be due to VSS thinks the system is
still in setup process. Please perform the steps below to check the status.

WARNING: Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that
may require you to reinstall Windows. Microsoft cannot guarantee that
problems resulting from the incorrect use of Registry Editor can be solved.
Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

Open the registry and locate the registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\Setup

Ensure both registry values are set to 0:

- SystemSetupInProgress
- UpgradeInProgress

4. If the issue still happens, reinstall COM+ by following these steps:

A. Backup and then delete HKLM\Software\Microsoft\COM3

B. Boot to Recovery console and rename clbcatq.dll to ~clbcatq.dll. Be sure
to use the tilde.

C. Boot to normal mode and in Control Panel, open the Add or Remove
Programs tool, and then open the Add/Remove Windows Components tool. Do not
make any changes, just click "Next". This reinstalls COM+.

NOTE: You must have your Windows Server 2003 SP1 files available during
this step.

Hope above information helps! I am happy to be of assistance to you and
look forward to your reply!

BCCCode 18 BCP2: fffffa80056befc0 Catastrophic Failure: 0x8000ffff

uninstall all SQL components from the list of Programs installed

______________________________________________________

Catastrophic failure (0x8000ffff)
Cause
Any of the following could contribute to this issue:

An application is interfering with System Restore.
One or more of the core System Restore files are missing and/or corrupted.
The Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS) has been disabled. System Restore depends on VSS volume snapshots being created via Shared Protection Points (SPP). System Restore cannot function if snapshot creation via SPP breaks or is disabled or if VSS is disabled.
Resolution
To resolve such issues, use these steps:

Try to use System Restore from WinRE, Safe Mode, or Windows Vista in a clean boot state. If that fails, proceed with the next steps.
Check for the following files in the %windir%\system32 directory:
Srrstr.dll
Srclient.dll
Srcore.dll
Rstrui.exe
Follow the "Restoring Core Files" section later in this document. You might want to follow the instructions in that section to reregister Srcore.dll. Keep in mind that you are not able reregister Srrstr.dll, Srclient.dll, and Rstrui.exe as doing so produces an error message.
Check that Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS) is not disabled.
Check for either of the following registry keys:
HKLM\Software\Policies\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\SystemRestore
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\SystemRestore
If you find a DisableConfig DWORD set to 1 in either of these keys, export the key and delete it.
Try System Restore again.

Unable to create system restore point

GOOGLE found:

Run services.msc and make sure Volume Shadow Copy is stopped. Then locate and delete any System Volume Information folders on the root of any volume that was previously being monitored by System Restore. You may need to alter
Folder Options/View tab/Advanced in order to see these protected system folders. Reboot the system and retry turning it back on.

Documents in vista

Vista is a wonderful new OS that has volume shadow copying, what that does is it saves versioning information. IE: I create a new document and every day I go through and add to or edit the document, oh darn, on day 3 of that document I made a mistake and I need to go back to that version of the document. Thanks to volume shadow copying this is possible, unfortunately when the shadow is created is unknown so it is at this time that the documents would be made unavailable while they are being archived. It never happened in XP because XP didn't have this capability, but then again if you needed a version of a particular file, you were SOL weren't you?
