Question about Car Audio Receivers

Alpine/Toyota factory stereo - contols not functioning

Toyota Custom Radio Cassette
Alpine # 7190ETC-2a
Toyota # 86120-00028

Ok, it's an old unit, but it was given to me and I was hoping a easy swap for an even older vintage Kenwood unit that died. I threw it on the bench to check it and stuck volts on, entered the security code, and that's about as far as things go. None of the push buttons seem to do anything - tune up down etc. The code appears to work as the display turns on, so at least the buttons work initially. What am I missing?

Oh, and I am competent in terms of part replacement etc if it comes to that, but it might not be worth it…

Every switch has spring to it - I will measure them shortly though. $11.00 each? - I can source them for a lot less than that.

  • zergrush May 04, 2008

Ok, I have one shorted switch - will update when I have time to repair.

Ok, fixed and all good, thanks for your advice. BTW - the text in caps at the end of your response I find offensive. It's like I'm being blamed for a problem that you have and not a good introduction to this site. I'm sure it's not meant like that, but maybe you could change the wording for the future?

www.merle840@aol.com - is that an email address or a web page? Anyway I can get the switches for just under $0.60 retail, and also get a good trade discount on top of that. Thanks for the offer at $11 though.

Any one of the switches could bad or any number of the switchescould be bad -----the switches i'm talking about are in back of the face plate----- this is one of the most common repairs that i have done on that model- if you want to replace the bad switch/switches they cost about $11.00 each- if you want to get them i have them in stock www.merle840@aol.com ----if you take the face off the radio check to see if the switches have any spring to them( they probably won't ) the ones that do are good the rest are bad
PLEASE RATE OUR HELP TO YOU OR WE WON"T PARTICIPATE IN THE FUTURE-thank you

Need to reset alpine 7510T

If this is the model fitted in a TOYOTA then the code is only available from the Main Dealer or a Decode Specialist (or your local Car Radio / Audio Store) who will connect a laptop to read/recode the memory chip

I am trying to install a Alpine CDE-7822S stereo into my 1996 Toyota T100. What do I need?

ok here is what you need to install>>>>you will need an install kit which is for the after market stereo to fit in the space your factory one was in also you will need the WIRE HARNESS for that year and model of vehicle...sometimes when you buy the insatll kit it will come with one....once you get that all you have to do is remove the stock radio and then wire the wires from harness to your wires on aftermarket radio and just plug the harness into the black picece behind dash

You could get a stereo installation kit for your year, make & model, that comes with a pigtail plug that would plug right into the existing harness plug and prevent you from having to hack up your original wiring harness.

If not....

Car Radio memory Constant 12v+ Wire: Orange
Car Radio Accessory Switched 12v+ Wire: The radio harness does not provide a switched power source. Run a wire to the fusebox for switched power.
Car Radio Ground Wire: Black/White
Car Radio Illumination Wire: Gray
Car Stereo Dimmer Wire: Brown
Car Stereo Antenna Trigger Wire: Pink
Car Stereo Amp Trigger Wire: N/A
Left Front Speaker Positive Wire (+): Tan
Left Front Speaker Negative Wire (-): Gray
Right Front Speaker Positive Wire (+): Light Green
Right Front Speaker Negative Wire (-): Dark Green
Left Rear Speaker Positive Wire (+): Brown
Left Rear Speaker Negative Wire (-): Yellow
Right Rear Speaker Positive Wire (+): Dark Blue
Right Rear Speaker Negative Wire (-): Light Blue

Good luck
