Click on start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > click on System Restore > Now a wizard will come select Next > now you will see a calendar .there you have to select the day on which you found that your system was ok........
for ex if you have installed os on january and by now it is may .you can select date from march ,february ,january in the calendar.and click next ..or select the first system restore ...but take backup of important files in window directory........
Good Luck

To get the state as in when it was new, you would need to run the restore dvd or then reinstall xp from the setup cd. you would loose all files and programs.

How to restore my Dell Optiplex 170L without losing my XP professional OS

Try CTRL + F11 when powering up.

What this does (or should do) is initialize Dell's System recovery utility. It will restore the system back to it's factory original state (the state the system was in when it left the factory). This won't remove the operating system, but if you've upgraded the OS or made significant custom changes to the computer (software wise) you may lose all the changes. If XP professional is the original OS on the system when you bought it, the recovery will leave the OS on the system. If you've upgraded to Pro, and you still have your install disc, or have access to an install disc and your XP Pro product key, you can reinstall XP Pro after the recovery.

How to restore or install xp

Welcome to Fixya

Inorder for you to restore the computer back to original factory settings. You need to turn off the unit first and press the one key button which is located right beside the power button. It is the one with the u-turn arrow sign. This will put the computer back to original factory state. You can install XP to your computer by using your own disc.

Thank you for using Fixya!

I want to resore my computer back to manufactured state. Its a dell optiplex gx260 desk top

In that case all you have to do is to boot from the recovery disks that came with the pc when you bought it. From then the process is pretty much automatic.

How do i resore my toshiba satellite pro L450D-12X to its factory settings

Format the drive, then install an operating system such as xp, or windows 7 .... it should install most of the correct drivers. If you have the original disks that came with the computer, use those. You may have to go to the manufactures website to find the exact drivers for the video and sound cards., but that should pretty much return it to factory settings. If you are really picky and have the bucks, you can contact TOSHIBA for the original disks.

I would like to reset my computer back to original state. My system restore does not work. Disks did not come with my mother in laws computer.

You have three options
Before you use any of the options you should attempt to get anything you need to keep from the hard drive (music, pictures, documents etc.)

One is to buy a set of restore cd's from Toshiba

The second is to buy a new operating system of your choice (my preference)

Third is that some laptops come with aspecial resore partition built into the hard drive. For this I would suggest go inti the bios and see if there is any clue in there. If not then look for some form of extended boot sequence in the bios and set it to that.

Start up the computer and watch the screen closely in case it says somthing like "Press F12 to restore your computer" or somthing similar
