Sounds like the lamp itself is bad. You will need to replace just the scan head , not the entire scanner assembly.
First of all, try a couple of things.
Try a memory clear, but print out your phone book and dialer numbers, but here is that procedure..
1. Enter Tech Mode by pressing MENU-#-1-9-3-4. (You will see "TECH" in the display.) 2. Press "MENU" then press the Down Arrow until you get to MAINTENANCE. Press "Select." 3. Press the Right Arrow until you get to "MEMORY CLEAR." Press "Select." 4. The first option will be "CLEAR ALL MEMORY." Press "Select." NOTE: The option to do a Total Memory Clear is available ONLY in Tech Mode. If the option does not come up in MEMORY CLEAR, go back to step 1 to try reentering Tech Mode. 5. After the machine clears memory, reenter (or upload from your PWS) all System Data and Phone Book settings. (If necessary, run a System Data report and compare it to your original report to detect any changes needed.)

Next thing I would try is print out a systems setting report and see what firmware level your at. It will say software or firmware level 1.04 or 1.07 or 1.11, ,,,,, 1.11 is the current level.

You can download an install it from the Xerox.com web site.

After that, remove teh back cover, 6 screws, and on the top of the main board you will see a white ribbon cable, unplug that and carefully replug it. Do this to make sure the connection is good.

After you try those things, if they do not fix it, you need to replace the scan head, and do the machine settings to reconfigure it.

I have a Sharp AL 1631 it won't print. It shows an H-4 in the menu screen

Press "Clear" then "Exposure Mode" then "Clear" then "Exposure Mode" quickly like within 4 seconds. The exposure mode key is the far left key.
If you do this correctly the display will go blank.
Key in 14 as if making 14 copies
Press the print button.
Short version: C, far left, C, far left, 14, print
The machine should reset and run fine. This is a common "false" code on these machines.
If it comes back after a couple of tries the you have a thermal fuse or heater lamp failure.

How to solved code H4 Xerox Xc1245

This code is akmost always a false code. I would try clearing it by entering the following key sequence:
Press "Clear" then "Exposure Mode" then "Clear" then "Exposure Mode" (Note that the exposure mode key is the far left key and that these 4 keys must be pressed within 4 seconds)
The display should have gone blank if these 4 keys were pressed properly.
Now enter 14 as if you were making 14 copies then press the Print Button.
This should clear the H4 code and the machine should operate normally.
If not and the H4 comes back then you have either a thermal fuse or heater lamp failure.

Xerox WorkCentre M15i squeals when printing and copying.

Do not only lubricate metal shafts, but promptly lubricate the "pulleys" on the right and left side.  the will look very similar to a wheek and pulley mechanism.  The squeal happens when one "bar" connects two "wheels" and one side moves faster than the other.

Scanner locked

There is a lock that has been hit and has the scan lamp locked.
Where to look is on the botom of the scanner. Look in where you remove the copies, on the bottom of the scanner you will see the only green part there, it is about 2 inches long and a half inch wide.
Turn the machine off, reach in and push the latch full IN, toward the back of the machine, then pull it our toward you until it snaps into place fully forward, It may be a little tight with it against the lamp carriage, but once you get it latched forward it will return to normal.
That latch is easy to hit when you are removing your copies from the tray.

All copies are blank

What happens when you print a report? Do you get print then? If you can print reports and then you get blank copies the problem is your scanner. If you can't print or copy, then the problem is in either the drum, I would say 30 percent, or laser probably 70 percent.
But we have to find out if it will print a report. Do you use the machine as a fax ? Do they print ok?

Turn power on and within 4 sec.press the following sequence;clear, exposure, clear, exposure. The screen will go blank.Enter '1' and '4' then hit print.turn off. This will reset H4 if the fuser has no problems such as a bad fuser lamp or thermal fuse. And yes it,s worth fixing with the right guy working on it!

is it a printer/copier?
yes....do both prints and copies off the glass come out black?
yes...probably a problem in the drum/ CRU area
No- prints OK but copies black lift the lid and watch the exposure lamp...does it light up? does it move? Both of these scenarios would usually bring up a fault code, so I would still be inclined towards the drum unit.Pull the unit out and make sure no paper has sneaked up between the drum and the exposure slot, or even into the drum unit. another cause could be a broken corotron wire (very thin wire close to the drum usually behind a grid (charge grid) If it is a customer replacement drum unit (CRU) the charge grid will be built into the unit and will require the whole thing replacing.......
