Most likely you just need to reinstall the mouse software from the installation cd..

After installing the software, restart the computer , and the mouse should work..

The cursor operated by the mouse?
Try using the cursor (arrow keys). If they work, try cleaning the mouse ball, unscrews from the underneath, or change the mouse if optical.

Having replaced batteries on a Dell mouse and keyboard, switched on keyboard and mouse not working. Dell support window says both connected? Cannot move mouse to acknowledge message saying that new device...

If the keyboard is working, try the "tab" key or a combination of the "tab" and "shift, ctl or alt" key.
You should be able to move the cursor to highlight to Ok message, then hit return.

My son did something to my computer and now the mouse does not move the cursor. How can I fix this? I have XP.

1) Is it wireless? Check batteries/re-synchronize.
2) Check the plug/connector at the mouse port on the back of the computer-loose/unplugged?
3) Broken mouse? Try plugging in a different mouse-one you know works.(New optical mice are relatively inexpensive-$10 or so)

If nothing above helps, use ARROW keys, TAB button and ENTER button to move around, and do the following:

go to windows START(lower left corner)
go to system
go to device manager

Now find your device MOUSE (yellow triangle indicates error)

Open your mouse ("Mice and other pointing devices")

On the first Tab GENERAL, it should say if the device is working properly or not.

You can DISABLE the mouse on the second Tab DRIVER, see if he disabled it. (You can enable it.)

Hope this helps.

Dell optical wireless mouse locking

If your mouse is "locking" the two most likely causes are either due to a battery issue or a connection issue. The first is unlikely since you're saying it started just after you replaced the battery, but you might want to try again if you have other new batteries around that you can use. Also you could try Re-Pairing (if you have the bluetooth wireless keyboard/mouse combo that dell offers) the keyboard and mouse after reboot. step by step Instructions for re-pairing or fixing a corrupted are should be available on the Dell support website and vary depending on the exact model you have.
