Since my posting of the same error, I found numerous suggestions on FIXYA for other Canon printer models with the same 6A00 error message. The isuggestions mainly zero in on the purge station where the printer head parks and possible cause being bits of jammed paper at the two pieces of sponge material. There were several reports of cleaning the two sponges at the purge station and the problem going away after. I checked my printer but did not finad any jammed bits of paper. But I found the purge station was a bit up and could be pressed down - probably a bit sticky due to the soaked sponges and not returning to its original position. After that I didn't get the error message anymore. The two sponges on my printer purge station were black and possibly soaked with ink and I am thinking of cleaning these the next time.

Hi guys, I am happy to report that I fixed the problem. In my case, it was indeed those little silicone rubber thingies that you can find in the right side (looking at the printer from the front) of the machine. That is the place where the head goes to park and scratches off the leftover ink. To reach so deep down, you have to remove the case. It is very easy if you know how to do it. This excellent video will help you:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gpezf9jSgyU

The screwdriver is needed only to help to move the little hinges, you do not need to unscrew anything!
Mine was filled up with black paint grease, but I could clean it up using a bunch of cotton ear cleaners and a bit of alcohol as well to wipe off the mess. Make sure you wipe off that thin, white plastic bridge as well that attaches from the front side. You can gently lift it up, towards to you with your finger and will see the dirt underneath. There is a narrow and a wider silicone rubber sticking up, go down to their roots for the dirt.

Now it is back on and works like a charm! :) Good luck!

Service error 6A00

Hello thanks for using fixya.

The 6A00 is a Canon generic code for paper path jam. Some where in the paper path a sensor is activated indicating paper jam so the printer will give off a 6A00 code.As a Canon technology,I usually find the code almost 90% of the time it is related to the purge unit being jammed with something and not being able to move.Moving the print head assembly will not clear a purge unit if its jammed with paper, paper clips, push pins, screws, cookie crisp, flower bud pods etc.
I have found all those things in a purge unit. The offending item needs to be removed or the purge unit needs replacement.A
Canon Pixma iP4500 InkJet Printer would still be under Canon warranty, get it into a shop and save yourself the hassel.
Incidentally, the 6A00 error pertains to all Canon printers made in the last several years, its not just used in one model & its always a paper path error or purge unit
I forget myself so here goes, the purge unit, called a spittoon assembly in an HP,lexmark & other ink jet printers,is where the print head assembly parks when not in use, also its other job is to clean and make sure the print head is clean and open for printing. That is why you 'll find the print head assembly parked on top of it. It also has a an electrical pump to milk the print heads and test for ink flow

Hi - my name is pete & I am a computer ignoramous! my printer keeps spitting out an error 6A00 message - any ideas on how I might solve it? many thanks

Hello, sounds like a printhead cleaning pad problem - see photo
Manually move the printhead to the left. The white wiper part is in front and has to be pushed back. Then the purging pad should spring back in its normal position. Check the purging pad for saturation of Ink, if clogged blot excessive with lint free cloth.

Printer is flashing orange in equal increments. When printing, I get the error message 6A00. It tells me to turn the printer off then on again. I turn it off an on again, but this does not fix the problem....

Hi
Error 6A00
The 6A00 is a Canon generic code for paper path jam.

Solution 1:
Move the printhead carriage back and forth a few times.

Solution 2:
Check the purge unit: Moving the print head assembly will not clear a purge unit if its jammed with paper, paper clips, push pins, screws, cookie crisp, flower bud pods or the like.

Solution 3:
Press the ink pads down in the purge unit.

Alarm blinking, I restrated printer, replaced ink jet and cleared printing queue but still error code comes up and won't work . error 6A00.

6A00 is AP position error.First, make sure there is no paper jam anywhere in the machine.. look inside, rear, where the paper tray (output)
is, etc to see if you find any shreds or torn paper that may have gotten stuck and you didn't see.Look carefully in the zone of Purge unit, using flashlight in the right side on printer. If this not help your printer need service.

Hello, My name is Edwin, and I have a canon pixma ip4500 printer for a year or two. Now I have a problem with it, he won,t print black colours anymore. I have cleared the heads, I have checked the ink...

You'll need to put in a new printhead, QY6-0075-000. They cost around $60.00. It is very common for the printhead to go out, they are much like a light bulb and burn out when you least expect it.
