My akia gx 625 does not turn at required speed. What needs to be completed to resolve issue

The last time I had one of those and I do not work on them too often on purpose is the capstan shaft was glazed and the Pinch roller was never cleaned. There are ways to deal with the problems but most people are too lazy so they take it to a Technician. The Pinch roller if hard needs to go to Terry for rebuild and the capstan shaft can be reconditioned. The motor needs oiling. Akai used some bad transistors in their units that make noise and have other problems and the glue they used on the PCB sometimes eats the foils away.

I have Akai gx 230. Its doinf Rew and FF but Play not working, though engages. Tape does not move. Can it be tape threading problem?

Could be either. If you can do some testing, check for power to the capstan motor in play configuration. If there is power at the motor terminals, the motor itself may have failed.

Capstan makes the reels drag sometimes even stops

Replace with a capstan belt from Marrs Communications it should be a 16.8" IC belt. Fred know which one if you tell him the model.
The capstan motor can also be worn out. These need to be taken apart and examined at to brush life and to see if it has bee overheated. I get a lot of motors that are burned up by customers.
It is a $150 part.

Reel to reel will not play

You do not mention the brand or model number which to answer the question effectively is needed- different machines are designed in different ways. The function of the fast wind and the play mode only differs in that in play a capstan is involved that regulates the speed and the reel motors just do the take-up of taper and a little back tension for the supply reel. You may have either a sticky Pinch Roller linkage or a non- rotating capstan shaft that might point to a loose or broken capstan drive belt. There are also the condition of the Pinch Roller surface and the surface of the Capstan shaft that can be glazed or rubber hard and non-compliant. The rubber Pinch Roller can be re-rubbered, the capstan shaft can be reconditioned and the Capstan Belt can be replaced. Capstan bearings and motor bearings need oil once a year as well. I hope this helped to some extent- I have been working on decks now for better than 40 years.

GR-290EK IN SAFEGUARD MODE 06 . ADVISES REMOVAL OF THE TAPE BUT WONT EJECT TAPE.

Your capstan motor has a problem, could be stucked-up or sensor fails. No capstan pulse detected. You may check capstan supply and drive as well. Good Luck

This is not the capstan moto but the belt from the capstan motor to the idler gear. you need to change it with the correct size.

31-30 flashing code

the capstan motor is the problem of your camera...that why c31:30 is appearing..there are 3 possible problem of the capstan motor...1 if the motor running too fast the sensor of the capstan is busted...2 may be the capstan is stuck up and there an object that clog to the motor ....3 may be be there no supply voltage to the capstan, poor connection to the main board socket...adjust the contact of the socket...it is need to disassemble the camera for doing this...if you are not a technician please don't try to fix your camera...i suggest you better go the qualified service center for fixing your camera...
