Question about Janome 1600P-DB Mechanical Sewing Machine

1 Answer

Machine vibration I just bought the Janome 1600P and the Gracie Pinnacle Quilt Frame, the problem I am having is that the machine has started vibrating. I have oiled it and have done very little sewing on it, I contacted my dealer and they took it and looked it over and even came to my home and said it is normal and I want to know if anyone else is having a vibration problem, my machine is 2 weeks old and it did not vibrate when I did my first quilt.

I have a Janome 1600P DBX. The needle is installed correctly but the thread on top keeps breaking or skipping stitchings while free motion quilting? the quilt shop says it is not out of time. I have...

Is it a new needle? a dull needle or one with a burr on it can cause those problems that you mention. The kind of needle you use is also very important. I like to use a 70/10 or 80/12 jeans needle depending on how thick the thread is.

I recently acquired a Janome 1600 with the Gracie II Frame. I am having trouble with the bobbin thread being too loose. How do I fix this.

Is the problem with the thread being wound too loose on the bobbin or is the bobbin thread too loose on your sewing? If it is the later, refer to your book on tightening the thread by turning the screw [very little at a time] on your bobbin case.

I have a Janome 1600P QC drags on a Little Gracie 2 frame

Sorry for your headache. It is the frame. If it is not level, balanced, you have hell to pay. Also it there is a nick in the grooves of the carriage tracks this will cause a machine problem. You may be able to repair the frame, or level it about the old level the table trick, put something under that part.

Good luck

Skipping stithes

Try practicing on a test piece before moving on to the quilt. Batik fabric is beautiful! I would check the thread size and needle. I tried quilting with invisible thread and had the same problem. The minute I changed to 50 wt.thread and a new needle the problem disappeared. I've found that 40 or 50 wt. thread works best on my Janome.

Frame quilting with janome 1600 db

am I right that the feed dogs do not drop on this machine?

Yes, this is correct....but you have to change the needle plate to a thicker one, so the feed dogs will be below the needle plate.

Janome now has a darning foot ie it looks like an embroidery foot with a spring designed for the 1600 models. It is metal with a ring where the needle goes down through it. I removed the plastic lens inside the ring and this seems to have resolved the problem.

I usually pull my threads to the top so I can see where they are and not getting tangled underneath.
There are several good groups on Yahoo groups which offer support for starting out on quilting
