It is a different type of handset. Thank you.

  • mcdonata May 01, 2008

It is the solid one piece handset. I have even been searching for a replacement and all the ones I have found are the older type. Thank you. I will keep searching.

The elements inside the handset are probably bad. The caps no longer unscrew because they are sonic welded (permanently glued) on. You have to buy a new handset and there are several types depending on the make and model of circuit board inside your payphone. Best to contact payphone.com and order from them.

The handsets receiver has gone bad. Just have a technician replace the handset Or if you wanna do it yourself. The handset is like $20 and you can get them at PayPhone.com

If your payphone has a handset where the mouthpiece can be unscrewed you can fix this yourself... But if its a solid formed peice like some are these days... You have to replace the entire handset. Not all the handset caps unscrew anymore.

The guts of smartphones were made by 2 companies, Elcotel and Protel. Here's a link to the Payphone.com website. Perhaps you can match a picture of the phone and download a set of instructions. http://www.payphone.com/Pay-Phones/

Our line one cuts out even when we're talking on it & we can just barely hear the person on the line but they can hear us clearly. We have unplugged the phone's power cord & plugged it back in...

I have the same sort of problem...kinda..lol. My Vtech sorta 'cuts out' when there is noise at my hosue. The person I'm talking to can still hear me but I can't hear them. If my son starts crying or there's any other loudish type noises on my end, it's like the phone is trying to cutout my background noise, but all it's cutting out is the person talking to me. It's not that the noises in my house are loud and I jsut can't hear the person I"m talking to, b/c if i cover the mouth peice then no matter how loud the sound in my house is i can still hear the person i'm talking to but I HAVE to keep the mouth peice covered. It's really annoying!

Phone receiver not working

Is this a replica or a real payphone? Will the transmitter cap unscrew?
A couple of things to try, is take out the transmitter, hold it in the palm of your hand (with the holes in your palm) and slap the assembly on a hard surface. That unpacks the carbon granules.

If that doesn't work, it also may be that a relay is operating because it is want is called a Postpay payphone. Try reversing the Tip and Ring (green and red) line connections and test it again.

Finally, a genuine "g" handset transmitter capsule is about $3, making it cost more to ship than buy. Your picture shows a non "armored" handset cord. If that's really the truth, is the handset black and non-modular? And how does it fit into the payphone housling?

Please don't rate this until you have answers....

Hi, Ive got a BT Contour 100 Payphone, but there is no dial tone or display. Cheers

You need to dismantle phone and replace Varta CR1/2AA 3Volt lithium battery. Dismantling is easy enough but you MUST lay out the screws etc so they go back in the right place, particularly the one with the two nylon washers underneath the head.

Losing volume

Here is the link for the user manual if you need it; http://service.us.panasonic.com/OPERMANPDF/KXTG5621S.PDF page 12 gives battery replacement instructions. I would expect a new battery would solve the problem, even if the charge indicator says that the battery is fine. Something to also check is that some dust or whatever hasen't got lodged in the headphone socket on the handset - that could have this effect. check the voice enhancer settings - page 31 - try changing them and see what you get. Hope this helps - my bet is on the battery :)
