Dvi-d 10m cable giving very bad image quality

hi,
i have a dvi-d(dual link) 10m cable which i bought it from singapore's local shop,but when i tried connecting it to my viewsonic vx2235wm-5 from 9600gt graphic card i got distorted image and the image quality was also very low,ihave already spend 200$ on it,so can u please help me out in how to get resolution min 1680x1050 or what would be the possible problem which i need to correct in my cable or in my computer configuration.Plz PLz help and i live in india.
