My white roomb 510 has almost completely stopped putting the cat hair/dust in the dust bin. It remains on the edge and gets redepositing on a rug. I have an older RED roomba (and cheaper) that still sucks fine. I have cleaned and taken as much apart as I can and the fan seems to work but the hair doesn't make it from the brushes to the dust bin.

The Roomba is not picking up debris. How can I verify that the brushes are turning?

Make sure you have a filter installed, then change or clean it. Without a filter, the fan will get clogged.

If that doesn't help, clean the fan and the exhaust port, and verify that the fan is working.

If the fan is working and the filter is clean, then your appearent lack of suction is probably due to the fact that your brushes are not turning, and therefore not collecting debris. That's a whole different problem, one I also have, but haven't solved yet (though there are suggestions on this site).

SOURCE: no suction

Roombas are a vary "low suction" device. The major amount of debris is picked up by the brushes. I assume you a re using the brush cleaning tool, removing the brushes and cleaning them. The other part is the dust bin which contains a small turbine motor. The connections can become dirty and the motor will not run. Make sure you keep the dust bin clean with a damp cloth especially at the contact points on the bin and roomba unit.

Your manuals are here. Flashing lights must be covered. A quick look at the site says flashing red is bin full. In fact, I found it. Flashing Amber is CHARGING.

Status light is red, why? I have a Roomba Discovery.

Hi.

If the red light is solid, that means that the Roomba is near to full discharge. If the light is flashing red, then the Roomba is completely out of charge.

If the Roomba is fully charged, then there may be a fault.

Here full list of light codes:

Pulsing Amber - Charging
Green - Fully Charged
Amber - Partially Discharged
Red - Almost Fully Discharged
Flashing Red - Fully Discharged"

Backs up spins in circles, then red light flashes and beeps

Sounds like either the battery is bad or not being charged properly with subsequent loss of programming.

No suction on Roomba 560

Larger debris is usually the responsibility of the brushes. Remove the bin and run the Roomba-- are the brushes actually turning? If not, call customer support for a new cleaning head module. If so, remove the grill from the back of the bin. Make sure that the little fan inside is clean, then reinstall the bin on the Roomba and run it. If that little fan doesn't spin, your Roomba has lost vacuum suction and you need a new bin.

Red sensor

If your Roomba's red "check robot" light comes on, the Roomba should also give a hi-lo warning tone, then a number of beeps. Check the number of beeps with the chart toward the end of your manual-- it should tell you what to do.

Roomba does much of its cleaning by the brush and roller on the bottom, but an important part is the little fan at the back of the debris bin which provides 100% of the 'suction.'
First, take off the vent cover on the back of the debris compartment and start Roomba on a mission. You will see the little turbine spin (if it's working) and probably a little dust cloud will come out.
It may not be working at best efficiency, however, because dirt gets sucked into the housing and blocks much of the air flow. Now that you know what the fan/turbine looks like (it's quite small, only the size of two stacked silver dollars), peer down into the larger opening of the debris bin and view the turbine from the other side. Chances are there's some crud stuck down there which is impeding air flow. (There's a hollow part of the turbine where the air is sucked into before being expelled out the back, that's probably filled with pet hair/dust/etc.) Clean that out using a long knife, chopsticks, or anything else that can reach down in there. Bang the dust bin down (lightly) to dislodge any more hair that's up there and continue cleaning until it's all gone.
I've had 3 Roomba's and they all get hair stuck up there. I only have to do this once a year or so (multi-cat and dog household here!) but it makes all the difference in the world.
