Thanks so very much 4 answering my question. The washer does not make any noise, so hopefully it is just the program switch and not the pump. Although it sounds as if the pump is the easier job!! God Bless! SharonEF

My Westinghouse washer stops after the wash cycle, will not drain. Timer control keeps running and than it goes into a spin cycle with water in the washer. As the water swirls around it eventually gets pumped out and the spin is normal. Same happens after the rinse cycle. Any help would be appreciated.

the wash cycle works fine, the water fills the tub and it washes the clothes but it is not draining the water nor spinning. could the hose be blocked and if so how do you clear the hose

Hi, I have the same type Whirlpool UCII 8 cycle 2 Speed Motor Washer. It fills normally, starts washing, then when you'd think it would start to drain, it shuts off. I hear a gurgle for just a second, likes it's starting to drain but it's only for a second, then nothing. If I advance the dial to rinse etc... nothing happens. The lid switch is working properly.

Any help would really be appeciated!

    thanks Ronnie

In my opinion, you will need someone on site to find whether the program switch has failed or it is only the pump itself.
The former is quite expensive but the pump shouldn't cost more than $20-30 plus labor.

When you write 'does not respond,' do you mean it makes no noise at all or just doesn't pump?
If it makes no noise, it is likely the program switch.

If you can determine that it is the pump, this is often a fairly accessible and simple job not requiring a lot of tools.
Keep a mop handy though . . .

Plug off the wall. First take out as much water as possible by lowering the exit hose to ground level, then remove wet clothes. Next dismantle your filter (be prepared for waste water to collect completely & not falling into the machine electricals) to remove any blockage; you can even examine your pump to check if anything is caught in the impeller to prevent pumping. Refit carefully. Exit hose to fit at correct height in standpipe

When the cycle doesn't advance, it's probably the timer or a cold-water supply problem:

  • It's the timer, if your washing machine fills with water and begins agitating, but the timer never advances--or if the washer is in a spin cycle and the timer won't advance. Then you need to replace the timer.

  • It may be a cold-water supply problem, if the washing machine fills with water, agitates, drains, and spins, but then doesn't fill with rinse water. See There's no cold water.

this can be two issues. One could be the control knob. there could be a malfunction here. secondly, you may have a faulty water valve assembly. the relay or solenoid may need to be replaced. i would start with the control knob.

Kenmore front-load washer stops at rinse cycle

When the washer initially fills for the wash, is it only hot water entering the drum? Try switching the water temperature between hot and cold as it fills. If any of them show little or no water getting through, it sounds too easy but check to make sure water supply taps are on, and that the cold/hot fill hoses aren't reversed. Remove the fill hoses and check any of the screen filters for blockage (in the hoses and in the inlet water valve). When the machine stops and waits to fill but all you hear is a hum, it sounds like there is power going to the valve but water is not able to get through it.
    Good luck!

that is either a problem with the timer , or with the cold water hose at the back of the machine, see the following:

Will not drain after the wash cycle, will not enter the rinse cycle

It sounds like the lid switch is bad.Does it act as if the lid is open even when closed? A common problem is that its mounting method fails (breaks off) after some time. Quick way to test is:
Find the plastic striker in the lid and under matching hole in the washer's top you should be able to find this switch. Try to operate (close) that switch with your finger or a screw driver and operate the washer while holding it down. If now it works, the switch is the culprit. Available on-line around $30.

    Won,t drain on rinse cycle

There could be several causes for this, but probably a bad timer. One test for this...when it stops...is to turn it off...and turn the timer slightly clockwise...to the middle of the rinse cycle...and turn it back on. Does it run then?? Try advancing it to the spin cycle after the rinse. If it runs okay after you manually advance the knob...the timer is probably defective.
