Not PARTICULARLY helpful. We have same problem, left side looking from back, which is where the feed friction roller is. Sometimes will not feed, then, if feeds, jams. Mechanism in that area appears to be clean. Have disassembled down to that mechanism and just popped out the black-grey plastic rear paper guide-lower.
There is a sub-gizmo which appears to kick a sheet of paper into the friction roller, and when you don' get a feed, it appears like that is not hooking the paper. Two screws now appear to hold the remaining black-grey short assembly which contains the friction roller in place, so we will see what sneaking it out may reveal.
Nope, looked at the amount that the rear paper-guide, lower, its lower edge, pushed the paper toward the engaging mechanism however it worked. It looked like it didn't flex very far, and from observing operation before I took it apart, it looked like the paper just wasn't getting caught. So I popped that guy out, (shortened the plastic pins on both ends to make in/out easier), and filed its forward-motion stop off some. Now the lower edge swings much more, pushed by the spring. Will reassemble and see what happens.

99 times out of 100 this problem is due to a dirty "paper kicker". The material they use is not a very good grade and it picks up dust and paper debris very quickly. Fortunately, it is very easy to clean.

Remove all paper from the feed tray. Open the front door and remove the toner cartridge and the envelope/bypass feeder tray. Look inside the paper feed housing - at the back - dead center. You will see a black roller-type mechanism that looks like it's made of a hard rubber material. This is the thing that needs to be cleaned.

Take a non-paper cloth (no paper towels, tissues, cotton balls, etc.) and dampen it with an extremely diluted cleaner (dish soap works great, just don't use anything with alcohol in it). Mix a little bit of the cleaner with a lot of water, then dampen the cloth. Another thing that works great for this is a pre-moistened cleaning cloth (e.g. Lysol wipes, Clorox wipes, etc.).

Reach back in the housing and wipe down the black roller mechanism a few times. You don't need to scrub it harshly, just use firm pressure to get a good rub down. Rinse your cloth thoroughly with water, squeeze out the excess, and wipe down the roller again to remove any residual cleaner. Now use another dry cloth to remove any excess water.

That should do it. Put the feed tray and toner cartridge back in the unit, load it with paper, and start printing again. Periodic cleaning of the pickup roller should keep your printing working well.

I thought if I could remove the ink cartridges, I could see the rollers on the back of unit, but there are five/six of them in a 'tray' that looks impossible to remove. I know there is a piece of paper caught in the roller underneath the unit. Multi-function unit; bah humbug. I wish I had my computer printers back!!!

Sometimes this is as simple as cleaning the feeder mechanism. Printers in general will jam paper if the feeder is not pulling evenly or smoothly. Cleaning dust and hair out of the wheels of the paper feed can help it to run smooth. Lubrication is also a good idea, but I would not recommend dissasembling a printer yourself.

Open the paper feed area and the printer, examine the paper feed path and make sure there isn't a page or piece of paper jammed in the path somewhere.

Paper will not feed through printer part

cut the paper evenly with scissors before attempting to feed it into the paper entry port. If you just rip it, it will jam or fail to feed.

Error paper jam

Hello Cassandra,
It sounds like you are having phantom paper jams. When the printer starts a print job and tries to pull a piece of paper but can't grab it the printer thinks there is a jam but there really is not. If the paper pickup rollers are worn down they are not able to grab the paper correctly to feed it into the printer which causes this type of error. The rollers are considered user installable and come in a kit with the rollers and the paper separation pad which keeps more than one paper from being pickup up at the same time. Installing the paper feed kit should clear up your paper feed problems. The paper feed kit is available here: http://www.ccl-la.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=342
I hope this helps.

Epson dfx9000 it gives me paper jam

Hi there,
My epson printer showed a paper jam light although no paper was visible.
I discovered my son had had a paper jammed and ripped the paper out and a tiny piece was jammed inside but was not visible easily.
***NO RESPONSIBILITY ACCEPTED FOR LOSS OR DAMAGE IF YOU USE THIS SOLUTION I USED TO FIX MY PRINTER*********
i cut an A4 sized square of cardboard from a cereal packet.
I inserted this instead of paper and attempted to use the feed paper button to eject the paper jam.
This did not initially work so as i kept pressing the paper feed button i forced the cardboard into the printer in the same direction that the paper feeds whilst printing.
The cardboard pushed the tiny piece of paper out.
Turn off the printer and then turn back on - you should find the printer now works.
I also found it helpful to clean the feed path and to try and keep dust from settling in the printer.
If it is in a dusty environment it helps to keep the printer covered when not in use - you can buy plastic covers for this or any large plastic will do but does not look as aesthetically pleasing.
Hope this has helped.

The roller on the feed tray keeps feeding through eventhough there is no paper there and the panel keeps saying there is a jam

If it doesn't do this with paper in the tray, it's a stuck paper present sensor flag.
If the machine thinks there's paper there, it tries to feed. Since paper doesn't make it to the timing sensor, it shows a jam.
Check for a stuck flag above where the leading edge of paper would be with the cassette inserted.

A sheet of paper keeps getting jammed - we remove it and try again but it keeps jamming. We have cleaned the rollers inside where the cartridge goes and it did not help

If the first sheet of paper is correctly feeded and it shows up after fusing unit and that happends every time, then probably you have damaged exit paper sensor. It have to be replaced with new one.
If the paper feeds only few santimetres then you have to replace paper feed roller

My Brother MFC8220 Keeps jamming the paper as it starts to enter the drum, is this a feed issue? or a Drum Issue? It appears to feed from the tray correctly, but then starts jamming as it enters the drum.

Using a cloth damp with water clean the feed roller. You will see it when you pull out the paper tray. If it starts feeding good it was a feeding prob.. If it keeps doing it look at the leading edge of the jammed paper for any signs of dings or bends. if you find any paper damage look in that area for what is causing the damage. Thank you, Steven 805-520-3003

Paper jam

One of your jam sensors may be stuck in the actuated position by a paper scrap or dust, giving a jam code to your printer. There are usually two sensors, one where the paper feeds, and one where the paper exits. Try this: hand-feed a sheet of paper through the machines paper path,IN THE DIRECTION THE PAPER NORMALLY FEEDS. This may force out whatever is actuating the sensors.
