Samsung HLP6163W 61" Rear Projection HDTV-Ready Television Logo
Posted on Aug 17, 2010

Once again my HLP6163W is not working. When it powers up there is a high pitch whine that sounds like it is a miniature jet engine powering down. The power button does not work, the set just powers up when I plug it in. No sound, no picture, no clicks. I have replaced a bulb before and that fixed the problem, but I have read in forums that it could be the bulb, ballast, or color wheel. I dont want to buy all three items for one problem. Is there any sure way of knowing what is the problem??? I looked at the bulb in the housing but it doesnt look blown or scorched or anything. Thanks for any help. Please note that I am not in any way an electronics tech.

Well I'm no expert but trying to fix one my self I'd say color wheel due to the noise issue... I have had repair places tel me the wheel and bulb and ballast are problems and if an old ballast is powering up a new bulb the old ballast will prob go out soon. sounds like the tv's are just junk I'm looking for parts so any ballast light or color wheel can be mailed to 25847 melba ave homeland ca 92548 and as I learn more with them good or bad parts I'll surly post it for the good of all so we can keep the land fills empty of the stuff.
Thanks for reading model hlp6163wx/xaa only please.

Check the idler pulleys on all the engine belts, esspecially the AC compressor. Could also be a worn or frayed belt.

High pitched whine

The most common cause would be a defective power steering pump.

Have 93 Chevy G 30 Have a High pitch whine that changes with rpm

This could be anything from the pump in the transmission to the alternator bearings/bushings to the power steering pump. Could be an idler pulley bearing, but I doubt it.
Hint: If the noise is very high-pitched, check the alternator. If it is a lower, medium-high-pitch sound that changes some when you turn the wheels, check the power steering pump. If it is almost like a moan or a "Whooo" sound, that's the transmission pump.

Sound like a jet engine when you get about 30 mph it continues when you let off gas it seems to disipate as soon as you give it gas it starts again

I am assuming you mean a high pitched whine. a high pitched whine is usually a sign of low fluid. Check your transmission fluid. Then check your differential fluid. the plug in the middle of the diffrential, remove it and stick your finger in there, you should be able to feel oil. If you dont then you need to add some gear oil.

Same problem: a high pitch whine after extended driving

Sounds like a dry/failing bearing or power steering pump noise. You first need to try to track down where the noise is originating, and the most likely place is at the front of the engine.
I would start by listening with the hood up while parked with the engine running and the noise present, and seeing if it is coming from there. If so, the most likely cause is something connected to the belt - e.g. AC compressor clutch, tensioner, power steering pump, or generator. Can also be caused by the belt just slipping (warn out belt, tensioner not working properly).

Loud engine whine (like a jet noise) from 2002 subaru forester

Have you crawled under the vehicle and personally inspected your exhaust line from manifold to tail pipe? The roaring sound usually occur when there is a hole in the exhaust line. I had it happen to my forester before. A hole half the size of a dime made my subaru sound like my old 74 chevy pickup.

Possible power supply problem?

Yep i can tell you what it is. The High pitched sound is the power supply soound when its overloaded and thats because the Horizontal output transistors shorted and this happened because of the flyback transformer went bad and /or the horizontal driver coil right off the secondary of the horizontal driver transformer and then the other side of this coil connects to the base of the horizontal output transistor. The part transformer cost about 35 to 45 bucks to the dealer and the transistor cost about 15 bucks. the total repair job cost about 175 to 225.00 after all said and done and some shops even may charge more ad there labopr rates may be higher. Good Luck
