No, there is not! You cannot just connect an Ethernet port to a phone line. What are you trying to do?

The cord that plugs into the DSL filter is a phone line and the other end plugs into your DSL modem. Also, every other jack that has a phone or fax or answering machine or caller id box has a DSL filter as well, in between the jack and the device.

I am trying to connect the ethernet cable to a philips RJ45 wall

There are two standards for ethernet wiring. Most cables use the B standard, but many manufacturers of central wiring boxes (OnQ, LeGrand, SmartHome) have central units wired to the A standard. Wall outlets have to be wired to the same standard as the central unit, assuming there is one. You have to determine whether the other end of whatever you are wiring is wired to the A or B standard. If you are wiring both ends yourself, use the B standard. The wiring diagrams are here:

Hi Joe,

How are you connecting to the port in the back of your router? if you have crimped a male plug on to some UTP cable then this may be the problem. UTP cable has a solid condutor and needs a different male crimp plug than UTP patch cable, which has stranded conductors.

I suggest you connect the UTP cable between the office and the loft to an RJ45 wall or surface socket in the office, use a terminating tool designed for the make and type of outlet you use, i.e. if using an ADC socket use the ADC termination tool. The sockets are designed for solid cable and have a colour code for you to follow. Then use a factory terminated patch cord between this socket and the router port.

I assume you have terminated the cable from the office onto one of the patch panel ports and want to use a patch cord to patch from this incoming socket to the sockets that are terminated onto the cables going to your other rooms. If you have access to a laptop connect this directly into the router port and ensure you have an internet connection, then plug the patch cord connecting the loft port into the router and take the laptop into the loft and ensure you have a connection at the incoming port on the patch panel. If you get the connnection there then use a factory patch cord to patch to a room you would like a connection in and then take the laptop to that outlet and ensure you have a connection.

If you want to run outlets in multiple rooms without re-patching every time then you will need to have an active switch in your loft and connect the port from the office to this and then patch out of the switch ports to the various room outlets.

Hope this helps.

Cheers, Jason

Dont know how to hook up cat5e cable to a leviton cat5e jack

Those two jacks are telephone jacks (RJ-11) not ethernet (RJ-45). The jack marked telephone is for a phone, and the jack with a rectangle symbol is for the telephone line into the wall.

You need to buy an ethernet PCI card - without one you can not use a cat5e line (which has an RJ45 connection).

Ethernet cord

Hi Dear Friend,
There can be number of reasons for this problem. To solve the problem, you can try these:

1. Check that RJ 45 connector, connected to switch/hub/pc is showing LED indication or not at the both the ends i.e pc end and at the switch/hub end.
2. Make sure switch and pc configuration should be correct and is not changed by mistake.
3. If LED indicators are not glowing any of the ends i.e PC or Switch end there might be a problem of ethernet cable, possible broken/cracked cable at some place or also possible that RJ 45 connector problem.
4. Also try the same cable to connect to different pc. Check, if it work then or not.

Hope this will solve the problem.
In case any other info is required pls. feel free to contact.

Thanks

MTU maximum Transmit Unit, by default should be set to 1400, if you are going to make changes to the MTU it should be in increments of 8 IE if 1400 humdred is not working try 1392 then 1384, 1400 is the standard accepted unit size for successful DSL data upload.

The filter might be bad. Try another filter. If the wires are cross in the filter it could cause that.
