Question about Acer Aspire 5100-5022 Notebook
I have a Acer 3100 Aspire Notebook. w/ AMD Turion 64 x2, 512mg ram, XP-Pro Media Center SP-2. At present the system is all but dead.
HDD & DVD appear ok
Getting power to USB ports
No boot screen
A few days ago I was hit by a backdoor virus. and believe this is the reason for my problem as it is a utility to tweak CP. I got the system back up one time and got rid of tha virus. After removing infected program II tried to restore my system to a point before installing the program. At this point the system locked and was forced to do a hard shutdown. My Acer notebook has never booted again.
I have re-seated memory and HDD Have swapped out HDD, removed battery and recycled power.
I want to know if I removing the CMOS battery would help? I can see the battery and have no problem trying, however it would be nice to have a case diagram for accssing the battery.
Help is needed in a big way!
I have acer 5020,hard shutdown,no power,no boot, keyboard locked, do you have the solutions?
I have the very same problem. I think that my motherboard may be dead... The problem happened while listening to music through the sound output. Maybe the speakers drained too much current. I don't know... I'm just worried about my HD. I dont want to loose everything.

It is possible for a virus to infect the cmos chip, but i didn't think it was possible unless you were performing a bios flash. however, it may be possible that the virus found a new vulnerability through your tweaking program, if this brogram can change motherboard hardware settings such as front bus speeds...
