Samsung SCX 5530 FN suddenly

By wendykayelew on May 01, 2008

Samsung SCX 5530 FN suddenly won't send or receive faxes.
Comments:

- I unplugged the machine for 1/2 hour and made sure the phone lines are plugged in tight. This did not solve the problem. The next suggestion is to reinstall the drivers. There were no drivers to install when the machine was purchased.

May 01, 2008

- The printer is not connected to the computer.

May 01, 2008

- The phone lines are plugged in completely. There is no driver to re-install.

- Samsung SCX 5530 FN, which had been performing as it should, now will neither receive nor send faxes. It won't make copies either. This machine is "not" connected to a computer. It's been unplugged for an hour and then plugged in again. The phone line is inserted tightly and in the correct place. This same phone line provides us Internet service, and we are able to be on line.

Was there recently an update you did on your computer? It may have caused driver conflicts.

At any rate, I recommend trying one (or all) of the steps below:

1) Re-install the drivers you got from your manufacturers cd.
2) Double check to make sure your phone lines are plugged in completely (sometimes they pop out and it looks like they still plugged in).

Please let me know if this helps. Take care!

- I'd post again but Benimur and IrishDruid are both on the same line of thought I am. If problems do persist, I recommend elevating to a live chat and see what happens from there.

If you have not a manual, it can be downloaded from link

- Have a look for reset chip at link

- When refelling the toner on the SCX-5530 series printer the page counter chip ( PCC ) needs to be replace. With this chip the cartridge will return to 100% full toner level. .

Hello wendykayelew

1. First check to see that all cables and connections are secure (especially phone line).

2. Unplug the fax machine, wait for about 2 minutes, replug and try.

3. If the above basic steps should not resolve the issue, It looks like you may need to reinstall the fax driver.

HERE is a link to download the software, and HERE is the link for the driver. You will probably only need the driver, but you can d/l the software as well, if you wish.

You may want to do a clean install to avoid conflict with other software during installation.

Clean boot/install procedure:

1. Unplug the printer from the computer. Later you will be prompted by the software to plug in the printer; do so at that time only.
2. Open the Windows Control Panel.
3. Open the Add / Remove Programs window.
4. Locate the listing for the old driver and remove it. When prompted to remove the printer drivers files, click Yes.

The following is the procedure for a 'clean boot'. I am assuming that you have XP. If you have a different OS, just let me know and I will send you the appropriate procedure to boot clean in that OS.

1. Click Start --> Run --> Type MSCONFIG --> Click OK
2. On the General tab, choose Selective Startup
3. Uncheck Process SYSTEM.INI file
4. Uncheck Process WIN.INI file
5. Uncheck Load Startup Items
6. Click on the Services tab
7. At the bottom, check Hide All Microsoft Services
8. Uncheck all boxes in the window or click the button labeled Disable All
6. Click OK
7. Click Restart

After restarting, reinstall the downloaded software. Next , do the following:

1. Click Start --> Run --> Type MSCONFIG--> Click OK
2. Replace checkmarks in the items that you previously removed them from.
3. On the General tab, choose Normal Startup
4. Click OK
5. Click YES, when asked to restart your computer

Hope that helps...Should you have any further questions, please feel free to post them here.

P.S. - If you find that the solution/answer I provided led you to, or resulted in a fix, please close the ticket with a FixYa! rating. I would be very grateful for your show of appreciation.
If it hasn’t, please do not assign a rating just yet. Please post back as to what steps you took, results, etc, and I will try to assist you further as best I can. I am here at your service.

Thank you for using FIXYA!

Cheers!

- Have you checked if the phone line that connects to the machine is working?

1. Try connecting a regular known-to-be-working telephone to the line. If you hear a dial tone, then the line and the cable are OK and there is a problem within the fax machine which you will have to get serviced.

2.If there is no dial tone, it could be that the line is dead or the phone cable is not working. Replace the telephone cable with another and see if there is a dial tone. If there is, the problem was with the old phone cable. If there is still no dial tone, then there is a problem with the phone line and you will have to call the telephone company.

Hope that helps!

- Do you get any error messages on the panel?

Hi,

Hi,

Initially, have you tried checking if the phone line is correctly connected?

Additionally, have you tried a full hard reset? If not, pls unplug from the mains. Most current devices would reset and revert back to factory default settings (assuming no internal hardware fault) when unplugged for a considerable period of time (from a few minutes to a couple of hours).

Pls post back for any development(s) or even the lack of it.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

- Another possibility is that the phoneline is connected to the lowest RJ-11 connector and not to the second to the last.

May 01, 2008

- Sorry to repeat myself, is the phoneline plugged to the connector before the bottom connector?

May 01, 2008

- There are two phoneline connectors at the rear lower right side of your machine. The bottom is for an extension telephone socket while the similar one above it is for the incoming telephone line. Pls try an ordinary telephone connected to the bottom RJ11 connector and determine if a dial tone is present. If no, then your problem is with the telephone line, if yes then it is either a setting/configuration (which I doubt) or a hardware fault internal to the Samsung SCX 5530 FN.

May 02, 2008

- Any development(s) with your concern?

May 04, 2008

- Have you tried hooking a conventional telephone at the bottom connector to determine if there is a dialtone at that end?
