After taking the phone off of night mode, I press the message button to retrieve messages and it is internally calling another extension?

Read the instructions that came with the cordless phone system or google the model number for an instruction manual.

Normally these phones just call your landline number and you input your code and the # character.

Perhaps you've already coded in the extension number on an arcane menu with the phone.

In which case it's back to the instruction manual!

If you dial 165 to retrieve voice mail messages, you can dial 165 #6 * and the extension that the MW light is lit on. It will be just as if you dialed 165 or pressed the MESSAGE button on that phone.

while the handset is hung up (without pressing the intercom button) press the "MESSAGE" button, on the display it should show ~why~ the message light is on (cause it is possible someone tried to intercom you, then hit the wrong button) after that you can turn off your light by pressing:
1) INTERCOM
2) 700
3) *your extension #*

it is possible that the extension that turned on your message light is no longer in service, making it an invalid extension

There is no voice mail in the phone.

The display on a Nortel set will say "message for you" if there's a message in your mailbox. To access your voicemail you can press your open voicemail key if its programmed or press feature 981.If you wish to retrieve your messages remotely, call your office, when the autoattendant answers the call press ** followed by your extension number, your password then # (ex. **2231234#).

the button on your phone has been reprogrammed. it is easy to program the button back, but you will have to get the extension for the voicemail. the easy way is to go to another phone, go into program mode on another phone go to key programming and press the button used for voicemail access and see where it points to. then go to your phone and do the same, go into program mode press the button you want to program and enter the extension that goes to voice mail. Program mode on the individual phone is access through a Program button or a softkey under the screen. I was just on the Panasonic dealers website to see if I could find you a Pamphlet to email you that explained this, but there is no information available for your phone, too old.

When you press the message button, look at the display. Is it really going to the VM extension or is it going to another phone? Othre people could have left you a message by calling you and pressing the MESSAGE buttone either on purpose, or by accident.

You can clear ALL message lights from your phone by dialing *700 plus your extension and #. Of course you can access VM by dialing the VM extension, usually 165 or 500 from the intercom.

I was told that the day and night settings in the local applications must be the same. It is in your night call routing table that you need to place the extension in order for the system to know which recording to play when. Then, your system will play the application when it is set in night mode. Hint: When you place the extension in the call routing tables make sure the extension is placed ABOVE the +ALL CALLS line, if applicable, and your ring-in-destination is set to your appropriate application recording. If you pick up the handset and press the button it will call back whom ever left the message. (that extension you see.) If it is not the voice mail extension, it was just a request to have the receptionist call back. Doing so should clear the lamp.

You can also press #409 on the phone to clear the message waiting indicator.
