Question about Digital Cameras

2 Answers

No pictures I have a new Pentax Optio S10 with a Transcend 2GB sd card, which was correctly installed and formatted. I took several pictures which played back fine on the LCD screen. When I attempted to view them on my pc I get the message: there are no images on this device to aquire. The software recognises my camera as an s10, but whatever software I use I get the same messege. Could the sd card be faulty?

HI,

The sd card is not being recognized by your PC.Do one thing try it out on another PC and see if it is recognized and that your able to see the pics.If everything goes fine ona another PC then it is not the fault of your camera or sd card. Its your own PC..You can go for a system restore but you will loose all your data on your PC.So make sure you take a backup and then go for it..

To do a system restore got to START>PROGRAMS>ACCESSORIES>SYSTEM TOOLS >SYSTEM RESTORE

Goodluck,

Do you have a card reader in your PC or laptop. If yes just insert the card in it.Once you format it you will loose all your data so please take a backup.

    1. Put the SD card on your PC using a card reader or USB adapter

    2. Go to a command prompt (Start -> Run -> Cmd)

    3. At the command prompt type format X: /fs:FAT /a:32K

NOTE: X is the driver letter of your SD card

This does a full format (not quick) to FAT16 with 32k clusters. This seems to be the best options for a 2GB SD card.

Hi,

it is possible that for some reason, the formatting of the Transcend 2GB SD card (as done in the camera) was not recognized by the PC. Have you tried formatting the memory card through the PC first before using on the Pentax Optio S10? IF not, could you possibly pls try and post back results?

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

    Hi slaphead2,

An alternative to coolguy008's second posting/solution and in the absence of a memory card reader, you can still format the memory card while in the camera through the PC. Connect the camera to the USB port of the PC. In "My Computer", the memory card would appear as an "External Mass Storage Device", right click on that and one of the drop down options would be "Format". Do a full FAT16 format.

Im using an optio s4 camera and just bought a 4GB SD card. But when I insert the SD card into the camera, there's only a black screen when I turn it on.:( But when I remove the SD card, the camera works...

The Optio S4 works with MMC and SD cards. Your 4GB card is actually an SDHC card. While it fits into the slot, it is electronically incompatible. You need to go with cards 2GB and smaller.

SD card problem

here is a list of compatable memory cards
http://www.4allmemory.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=search.memorySearch&model_id=42425
.. any SD or MMC card should work up to 4 gb ... so your 2gb should be ok .. i suspect that it may be damaged .. you can try formatting it in a USB card reader if you have one on your computer .. some laptops have the SD slot built in .. there was some compatability issues with memory cards for older cameras but there shouldnt be any with such a new machine .. make sure the contacts are clean and the "protect" switch (if any) is in the unprotected mode .. when you format the card it may take several minutes so give it time .. if you are going to take movies then its better to use a "high speed" SD card .. like the 133x mentioned in the above URL .. slow memory may cause missed frames or 15 fps instead of 30 fps record rates.. .
the specs on your camera do show SD and MMC compatability .but they dont show any brand preference .. .

Largest capacity SD card for Pentax Optio S5N

The maximum supported size is most likely 2GB SD Card. Cards with 4GB and more are following a new (incompatible) standard called SDHC (SD High Capacity), SDHC cards work only in devices specifically supporting SDHC. The Optio S5N uses the old SD standard where 2GB are the maximum size.
