Wiring question regarding CQ-C8100u & CX-DP880

posted by ubootwo on May 01, 2008

I have installed the CQ-8100U head unit on a 05 dodge ramand now about after year I am ready to install the CX-DP880 cd changer.

Question i have is the 12v continu power supply for the cd changer. Then manual says to connect to a continuous 12v supply, which I take as the battery (this is the yellow wire from the changer). Now on the cable that hooks to the head unit this power supply wire is only 12" long from the point to connect to the head unit. How do i connect to the battery if I only have 12" of wire.
I think i am missing something, maybe this wire connects to the head unit somehow, or maybe to a hot wire off the wire harness from the ram?

Solution is to splice the yellow 12v supply from head unit and attach yellow from changer to it. note to remove battery cable as this is a continuous hot lead.

Now I got a new problem!, everything wired up correctly, disk tray was locked in and would not come out. I got it out but now all it says is error# 3 on dash unit.

Keep in mind was never used, brand spankin new.

Sounds like it may want to pick up disk but does not, keeps trying then shuts down.

Any tips?
